The 2nd page of the NY passenger list said that he was going to the World Youth Congress at Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, New York, which is where all the other people on that page were also going to.  It says he was scheduled to stay in the US for 60 days.

Today, I found an interesting Andrews Newspaper cutting at Ancestry.
A daughter born 1949 to Raymond and Gutte [nee WINTHER] GAUNTLETT, although I am unclear whether this birth was in Copenhagen or Baghdad.  What do you think?

Would say the birth was in Copenhagen 29/10/1949 ....would I be correct in saying his first wife went to USA 1943 ? And married a H J Timperley 1944 in Arkansas

Raymond Gauntlett married Helly Tabet nee Rezk (1926 - 1975) in Beirut Lebanon in 1967. She first became friends with Raymond Gauntlett in Lebanon when he worked in the Foreign Office. They had a son born in 1965. They lived in India and in Oxford. They were estranged when he died in 1973, she died in 1975.

Helly REZK 1926-1975, do you know her roots and previous marriage?
"a son born in 1965".  Do you know where the boy was born?  Orphaned aged 10 years,  I wonder where he was schooled and grew up?  Is he living?
