Title: Richard Sadler d 1689 Richard Sears alias Sadler d 1700
Post by: bazwellius57 on Saturday 03 June 17 15:38 BST (UK)
Hello all, are there any descendants of Richard Sadler, b 1633 Aspley Guise, d 1689 Woburn. He is the son of Thomas Sadler, and Frances Berry or Bury. The official records say he died without issue, yet the parish registers show he had 4 children, he supposedly married a Mrs Sears, and his children took the name Sears alias Sadler. I ordered his will on microfilm from the LDS here in Australia, but the readers are so poor it was illegible, and I was hoping someone may have a copy of it, to prove perhaps his parentage, and also his children, i  seem to be descended from his son, Richard Sears alias Sadler, born 1660 Husborne Crawley, buried 19th March 1700 , Woburn. both Richards' wills are apparently located in the Archdeaconry of Bedford records, but i have no way of accessing them, other than the LDS
thanks... barry Copas, Australia.

Contact Bedfordshire Archives http://bedsarchives.bedford.gov.uk/ArchivesAndRecordOffice.aspx (http://bedsarchives.bedford.gov.uk/ArchivesAndRecordOffice.aspx) who should be able to provide photocopies of the wills for you.

You can search the Beds Archives catalogue here:

http://bedsarchivescat.bedford.gov.uk/search/advanced

Try searching sadler aspley guise in the keywords.
They had at least one surviving son, named either Edwin or Edward Sadler, or London, esquire, in 1653.

From Bedfordshire Probate Records Index, I can see that Beds Archives hold the will of.....
S(A)YER, SYER alias Sadler, Richard, senior, Woburn, labourer ... ref ABP/W 1689/46

However I cannot find a burial for him in Woburn about that time

His son I assume, Richard Sadler, alias SYERS was buried at Woburn on 19 Mar 1700-01..
However I cannot find a will for him in the Probate Index but it might be there under another dervative of the name.

Other wills they have are...
Sadler alias Syer, Judith, Husborne Crawley, widow ... ref ABP/W 1759/6
Sadler alias Sayer, Thomas, Husborne Crawley, yeoman...ref ABP/W 1749/50
S(a)yer, Syer alias Sadler, Henry, Husborne Crawley, victialler...ref ABP/W 1693-4/129

Cheers John

Regarding the Richard Sadler alias SYERS buried Woburn on 19 Mar 1700-01...

... could he be the Richard SIERS who married Mary Ireland at Woburn on 29 Sep 1684....
followed by baptisms in varying names...
17 Feb 1685-86 Richard, son of Richard Sadler
8 Jul 1688 Mary, daughter of Richard Sadler
1 Feb 1690-91 Elizabeth, daughter of Richard Sadler
29 Apr 1694 'Sary', daughter of Richard Seyers
30 Sep 1694 Susan, daughter of Richard Seyers; buried 27 Dec 1694 as Seyers
25 Oct 1695 Thomas, son Richard Siers
4 Jul 1697 Keziah, daughter of Richard Syers
9 Apr 1699 John, son of Richard Syers
8 Jun 1701 Francis, son of Richard Syers; buried 27 Jul 1701 as Syers

After Richard Sadler/Syers died 1701 could wife Mary Syers have married Nicholas Sanders on 19 July 1702 at Woburn?? although PR don't say she's a widow. They had son Nicholas who was baptised & buried in 1703; & Nicholas Sanders buried 4 Jun 1721 & then Mary Sanders, widow buried 29 Mar 1735

Hello Barry

Did you contact Beds Archives to get details from the 1689 will of Richard Syer alias Sadler, senior of Woburn? If so could you let us know if he leaves stuff to his son Richard or any other family member.  You say you descend from Richard Siers who married Mary Ireland, and passed away in 1701 as Sadler alias Syers.

However you say in your opening post that your Richard Sears alias Sadler was born 1660 in Husborne Crawley. There is a baptism at HC on 19 Nov 1660 of Richard son of Thomas Sier but he was buried there on 22 Apr 1663 so I am ruling him out.  Where did you get your info from?

Regards John

Sorry for the delay John, I haven't had the opportunity to contact the record office yet, why i want the will of Richard Sadler/Sears d 1689 is to verify if there are children mentioned, some time ago several people on Ancestry.Com stated that his father was Richard, and i need to see if any siblings may be mentioned as well to try and verify this. You are correct about Thomas being the father of Richard, and that Richard died as a child, hence my dilemma. I have proven ties to Richard and Mary Ireland, and need to go further...Thanks
