hi i am trying to find a marriage for my great uncle ernest born 1889 to a john henry smith and a eliza ne mallen.
we have him in 1891 census ED, institution, or vessel 14

he is down as a border railway hand which was confirmed by my elderly father.i know he did move to Leicester and dad said he had two children peter and nellie .
this is rather special to me as i have learnt that Ernest paid for a burial plot for eliza smith

My sisters asked me to thank you for the information (she's at work). She's now found him on the 1939 register in Coalville.

The Coalville Ernest's estate was probated to Ernest Victor Smith. Does this ring any bells.

Hello Jim1, I've just been told that Ernest Victor Smith was Ernest Richard Smiths son, so thank you for that. Ernest snr lived in Leicestershire having been born in West Bromwich and was a councillor, but I know nothing else about him. His siblings stayed in Birmingham.

Thank you for that, obviously dad (95) has got mixed up with the names. Great Uncle Ernie was a bit of a mystery to us girls although dad remembers going to see him when he was a young lad. At least we know a bit more about his family now.
