I have just received a copy of my maternal grandparents wedding certificate and notice that both my grandmother and my grandfather's father were munition workers. At the time of the wedding my gran Celia Grace Phillips lived in Belmont Passage and gt.grandfather Walter Benjamin Ainsworth in Fawdry Street both Aston. I was wondering if there was a munition factory nearby where perhaps they worked. Any help would be appreciated. I have looked at some old threads and realise it's probably wishful thinking on my part!

In some notes my Mother left, she wrote that Grandmother worked at Kynoch's Munitions in Witton, which is fairly close to Aston.
I think there was also BSA?

I did think about B.S.A myself. I'd loved to know where! I just wish I'd asked questions when they were still alive. Thanks.

There were more munitions factories in B'ham that can be mentioned here.
Kynoch's was the largest but many factories large & small were turned over for the purpose.
The nearest to Fawdry St. as far as I can see was the Wolseley Motor & Tool Co.
During the war they produced 2,650,000 18-pounder shells & 300,000 Stokes's bombs (mortar)
It was said that you could kit out an entire army without going out of B'ham.
To give you an idea Belmont Passage is in yellow & Fawdry St. red. Wolseley Motor & Tool Co. was at Adderley park.

Husband's grandfather Joseph Blakemore worked at BSA and died in 1918 at the end of WW1 as a gunner. He was a gun finisher living in Aston.
