Title: Daniel M{a}cIntosh
Post by: scoobie2010 on Friday 09 June 17 09:43 BST (UK)
Hi I am looking for any information on Daniel McIntosh born 1907 . Parents were Daniel McIntosh and Annie Fraser. He married Margaret Jessie Munro in 1938. I do not know if there were any children to this couple. Maybe starting to come to far forward.
Regards.

Hi Scoobie

Does get harder the further forward you go doesn't it. Parents Daniel and Annie married in 1905 didn't they? Have you checked the 1911 census? This often will help you expand on the family household. Were there any family members acting as witnesses when Daniel Jnr married in 1938?

McIntosh along with all the various spellings are difficult to research - those and the Frasers due to the sheer volume of numbers in Inverness - guess whose names are my direct ancestors.   ::)

I go to the Archive every now and again and spend ages opening lots of entries before getting a hit- though I can also find relatives that I was not expecting too!

I have an Annie Fraser in my tree, however she would be too old, I am sure - born 1855.  Last seen in the 1861 census.

Hi Scoobie,

Can you confirm if it's descendants/ancestors or both you're seeking?

Hmm,

Great when you find an 1855 cert.  ;D

Thankyou all for taking the time to reply. I have now brought the marriage certificate for Daniel and Margaret Jessie. The parental information is really helpful. There are no McIntosh witness's only Munro. I am now wanting to find any living decedents , so I presume I would have to go into Scotlands people again and go through all possible births. If anyone can come up with anything else it would be very appreciated. Thanks again.
Cheers.

Where were they married?

Have you found them on the 1911 as they may have had family by then?

The 1911 census would let you confirm any children born to parents from their marriage in Nigg in 1905.  Have you managed to look at that 1905 marriage yet? Wondering if either Daniel Snr or Annie Fraser were married before? Their marital status should show on their marriage register entry.

Just from playing around with the general index on SP, I am wondering if this is the MCINTOSH family household for 1911 in Nigg:

Daniel F, 36
Annie J, 36
Charles 16
Joseph, 14
Annabella, 12
Flora, 8
Daniel, 6
Robert William, 4
Jane, 2

Ref for all entries shows as 266/ 4/ 18, Nigg, Kincardine.

Going forward - I have found this to be difficult - the best option is the Archive Centre - I look for obvious family names first - sometimes this works but generally there is much time spent looking at the wrong entries.  Indeed traditional naming is rarely seen over the last eighty years or so (at least in my family) .  Then if the family have moved on - even more problematic - just so many entries.

Look at the deaths certs of Daniel and Margaret?

I am going to order the death for Daniel who died in 1972. It has to be brought and sent to me in NZ, as we are moving forward in years. Once upon a time you could pick 1st born children through naming but now a little more difficult. Thanks for your help.
Cheers.

Daniel McIntosh married Margaret Jessie Munro in Inverness. 16th March 1938.

Does it show addresses which could narrow your search areas/districts as Inverness is a big place?

Just in case, I think at least I may have misunderstood.... Re reading, I think you may be after the children from the marriage of Daniel Jnr and Margaret Jessie? We may have been discussing parents and children to them in error?

If so, you can search in person at one of the main genealogy centres for births to include mother's maiden name from 1929. The spellings of names have to be precise on the search (you cannot use wildcards) so you may to use different spellings of McIntosh perhaps.
