Hi all
James White born in Partick in 1858 - son of James White and Ann McKay. I have seen his birth cert on SP.
He appears in 1861 and 1871 in Anderston, Glasgow aged 14. Then absolutely nothing after 1871!!
I cannot find him in any deaths or marriage index since then. I had thought that he may have died between 1871 and 1881 ... but no sign of him.
Can anyone help or should I just leave it at that?

Good Morning Bill.
Maybe you have already searched but is there any chance he went abroad? Have you found his parents in any census after 1871 or their death certificates - who registered the deaths?

Hi Dorrie
Found the family in Anderston from 1871-1911. The other son signed dads death cert in 1897. Mother died in 1864

Hi Bill
On family search there is a James White born same year who went to New York in 1884...could this be him...there is also entry for 1911 as overseas military in India

Could be him in 1884. I often thought he must have done so.. but no proof etc
-
There's are quite a few entries for James White on family search....it's just a case of getting your James...may be worth you trolling through them
-
what entries are you looking at Karen?
-
if he went to USA in 1884 - where was he in 1881 census?
-
I just put into search all the details that you gave and lots of entries came up....there are too many to list....it may be that none of them are relevant but worth a look. Like my family of Smiths and Browns a bit time consuming and lots of them haha. Good luck

got it Karen... and found him
-
That's great Bill
-
but still think he is in the 1881 somewhere
-
I can't find him in Scotland in 1881 on Ancestry.....did he have any siblings
-
yes half brothers and one full sister.
Full sister was born in Helensburgh in 1854 Jessie White sometimes called Jessie Begbie White .. funny enough she isnt in Anderston in 1871... but she is in later censuses and dies married in 1912
I wonder where she was in 1871.. not more brick wall

You may need someone that has full access to Ancestry......I don't have access to overseas records. Have you tried going on to the live chat on here....they are a friendly bunch and maybe someone can help there
-
ok Karen will try it ... thank you

I know exactly how you feel Bill....I have so many brick walls of my own and no way of getting through them....I had one about a couple of months ago and I left it but came back a few weeks later and don't know what I did differently but I found my man.....so maybe come back to it later
