Title: John Thomas Ford (aka Jack Ford)
Post by: newbie on Sunday 11 June 17 15:07 BST (UK)
Hi,
I am stuck and would appreciate some help please.
I do have an Anc.sub but not worldwide, I have tried using Canadian  sites and also Familysearch but think I have exhausted my options for now.

I am looking for any further Census information, Marriage Certificates,  Death Certificates. Electoral Roll maybe.?
Jack Thomas Ford b c1875 Dowlais Wales.  Father Luke Ford.
I have found John in the 1911 census and in the 1916 census he is in Saskatchewan, district 19.Kindersley.  together with  brother Frank.
I have Johns death certificate , died Oct 9th 1960 in Victoria found online.  His second wife Nellie (Cooke) is the informant.  On Family search I can find the marriage transcript (but not a certificate which would be great to have if available)
Also on British Colombia Death Registrations I find Mary Ford, died 9 March 1938  (Victoria) transcript.  I have never been able to find her marriage to John Ford.
I also found John and Mary on the SS Duchess of Richmond, Sailing from Liverpool 21 March 1930.
John T Ford, born Dowlais, Age 55.   If in Canada Before :  1905 - (22 Nov)1929.  Kyle Sask.
Mary Ford,   born Dowlais,  Age 56,  In Canada 1909 - (Nov) 1929.  Kyle Sask.

In Library & Archives Canada, I found Land grants for both John T. and Frank
https://www.bac-lac.gc.ca/eng/discover/land/land-grants-western-canada-1870-1930/Pages/list.aspx?Names=Ford&Range=16&Meridian=W3&
They look as if they could be  adjoining land .
Are wills/probate available to search for Canada,?Johns death occurred in Victoria so he obviously wasn't farming any more.
Lots of questions - sorry?

Thank you,
Newbie

(Edited as realised I was asking too many questions!)

Mary's obit (not overly helpful)  http://archive.org/stream/dailycolonist0338uvic_7#page/n4/mode/1up

It does give their address, though, so you might be able to track them through the directories to see when they first show up in Victoria?

Hello
Many thanks for that, thats interesting .  It did say they had resided "here" for 2 years. But I will look at the directory link.

That was a super link to the paper archive thank you.

Could this be them?

1921 Lacadena, Kindersley, Saskatchewan Census
Jack Ford, age 46 (born c1875), England.  Immigrated 1906.  Welsh.  Farmer
Mary Ford, age 48 (born c1873), England.  Immigrated 1906.  Welsh

Update:  Listed two entries above them:

Perhaps you already have Frank Ford's estate file?
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:33S7-9PPF-9KY?i=1&cc=1918293
He passed away in 1929.

He is possibly buried in White Bear Cemetery, White Bear, Saskatchewan

Hello Lisa

Yes thats them!!      1921 Census   - Thank you so much   and you found Frank !  I just haven't been able to find anything on him at all. He disappeared , I had searched for a death but hadn't picked it up.
I have found some land grants that may possibly relate to both of them on the Homestead search so I was wondering whether to ask Sask. Genealogy Society for some research to see if I should obtain the files for the Grants.

Thank you again, this is such good news...

Ive just followed the link to the Probate estate for Frank Ford.
I had tried a search on Familysearch but had only found information for John.
So that is great to have.

I've had no luck finding Johns marriage to Mary either in UK or Canada. ??? :(
Thank you again for your help  I now know what happened to Frank.

Lisa

I have had the most amazing few hours!   I hadn't realised that the link to the papers for Frank Ford contained so much information.  When i first checked the link I didn't think to look further ahead, when I went back to print the information I thought   - wonder if theres any more? -  there was!  Pages and pages, full of facts and information, his marriage, his widow , her future married name, his stepdaughter, his land.

Invaluable information.
Thank you so so much.
Im having a great day!
Pauline

I think you should be able to order a copy of Mary's death cert through either the BC Archives or the familysearch website. It would hopefully give you her parents' names and thus her maiden name.

Info on Henry Carpenter, Bertha Franks and their daughter Beryl Violet Carpenter.

The three Carpenters arrived on the Montclare 14 March 1926 with destination Kyle, Saskatchewan.  Bertha was 32 born Chester England and Beryl was 3 born Dowlais as was her father Henry Carpenter 31.  Their passage was paid by F. Ford and nearest contact in Britain was Mrs. M. Franks Hayfield.  She was listed as mother of Henry and mother-in-law of Bertha although it seems that Bertha's maiden name was Franks.

Perhaps you've already found Mary's family or her marriage certificate, but in case you haven't, the following could just be coincidence, but worth mentioning?   :-\

It appears that Mary's maiden name was Jones?  (Isn't that a helpful surname.)  ;)

1916 Lacadena, Kindersley, Saskatchewan
John, Mary and Frank Ford (immigrated 1912) are shown on page 4
Shown several families below the Fords are
James Jones, age 50, born Wales, immigrated 1912
Hannah Jones, age 50, born England, immigrated 1912

1921 Lacadena, Kindersley, Saskatchewan - page 2
Jack Ford, age 46 (born c1875), England.  Immigrated 1906.  Welsh
Mary Ford, age 48 (born c1873), England.  Immigrated 1906.  Welsh

1921 Lacadena, Kindersley, Saskatchewan - page 4
James Jones, age 53, born Wales, immigrated 1906
Annah? A Jones, age 53, born Wales, immigrated 1906
Note:  Is this the same Jones couple from 1916 - the ages are off.

Could the above James be Mary's brother, or given that Jones is such a common surname, was it just coincidence that they lived near each other in 1916 and their immigration dates are identical?

Update: Didn't notice that a son was mentioned in 1916 and 1921:
Ivor/Iven Jones, born c1903, Wales

Hello

Lisa in California,

Thank you!    No I hadn't found any of the information that you give  (just my luck to find another Jones!)  so thats something to investigate further.

Would you mind explaining to me how you managed to find the link to the will for Frank Ford d1929.
It has been a source of much head scratching there are over 100 pages!
When I try to find it using the familysearch site I just can't find it,  only using the link you found.
It is so very detailed I am amazed at how much there was and how the legal fees for what should have been a straightforward managed to take so much of it!

Thank you again,
Pauline

Hi Pauline:

I've tried to recreate the search and I also cannot find that particular result.   :-\  When I search, I try to be very specific (town and exact dates) and then expand my search eventually ending up with very broad terms (province and extended date range).  If I have time later today, I will try again.  Thank you, Lisa
