I have a record of George Parker, born Kings, NY, on 26 November 1894 to George Parker and Elisabeth Ann Clayton. George and Elisabeth Ann apparently divorced by the 1900 US census and George had a new wife, Florence, and child living in NY. Elisabeth Ann was living with the Harell family and called herself 'Annie Clayton'. She had 2 living children, not with her. One was George, the other was Ada Marion Parker Hill. I have traced Ada Marion but would appreciate help in finding more about her son, George. He may have been adopted or fostered or in an orphanage. I have no records for him after his birth.
I also do not know what happened to Elisabeth Ann Parker (Annie Clayton) after the 1900 census.

Hello Sandra
Many thanks for all of your hard work, it is much appreciated. I did have some of that information from my previous searching over many years but still haven't solved the 2 mysteries that elude me. What happened to Elisabeth Ann Clayton Parker (sorry my 'sed' key doesn't work) after the 1900 census (did she remarry) and what happened to George Parker, their son, who was born in 1894 but then no trace. She obviously didn't have them living with her in 1900 as she was, herself, a boarder with the Harell family, so where were they. They also had a child before George, Ada Marion Parker Hill who went on to marry and have a family in the US.
As she had the surname 'Hill' added to her name, was she adopted or fostered, or did E Ann remarry someone called 'Hill'. I cannot find a marriage as yet. I wonder where Ada Marion was in the censuses 1900 - 1930.
George Parker senior did not always tell the truth. He didn't emigrate when he said he did, and he also said that his second marriage was his first. Which, of course, it wasn't. E Ann emigrated in 1891 and was expecting when she left England. Her daughter, Ada Marion Parker Hill, was born in December 1891 in Brooklyn, NY. They had 5 children in all, 3 died young. Because Ellis Island records do not start until 1892, I cannot find her emigration record or arrival in the US.
As for Elisabeth Hindle. That is her maiden name when she married Francis Gibson in Lancashire in 1899. They were living with relatives where Francis learnt the butcher's trade from his uncle in Accrington, Lancs. She must have remarried after her husband left her with teenage children to raise to a Mr Fielding. However, I can't find their marriage record.
I have found quite a bit on her male children, but nothing on Coral C Gibson after the 1920 US census.
So, I have a few mysteries to pursue still.
Thank you again for your help.

Interestingly, and it may hold a clue, one of the sons of Francis Gibson and Elisabeth Hindle was Thomas Fielding Gibson. Then later records show that Elisabeth Hindle Gibson has become Elisabeth Fielding. (mistranscribed on LDS site as 'Feldsig').
Did she marry the same Mr Fielding, I wonder.
-
Looking for Elizabeth/Annie Clayton/Hindle/Gibson meant taking a look at her nephew Francis/Frank to see if there were any clues for Elizabeth/Annie or Ada Marion and George. Perhaps you could have given a little more information in your original post.
The birth record for Ada Marion Parker shows a father George Parker but mother Elizabeth Slat......
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:2W79-PYY
Another small discrepancy on the marriage for Ada M - calls her Ada May Hill to Paul Dean Barr ???
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:Q29Q-M2HL
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:939J-T594-P3?i=776&cc=1851040
Another discrepancy - The birth record for Thomas F Gibson - 3 july 1904 - gives parents Frank Gibson and Elizabeth White ???
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:VBRP-PZ2
If that was Ada who married Paul Dean Barr - then she could have been living absolutely anywhere in the USA to end up in Kansas in 1909 - thus making it difficult to find an adopted or foster child.
George Parker with a birth date of 26 November 1894 does not appear on the SSDI which was up and running by 1962 ish. Didn't come across any military record WW1 for him either.
Probably need obituaries for the Gibson family to see if Coral is mentioned.

Hello Sandra
Many thanks for all of the information that you have posted with obituaries. My original post was about George Parker and Elisabeth Ann Clayton rather than the Gibson family where I do have quite a bit of information, as it is readily available. Less for the Parker-Clayton family other than George Parker's second marriage to Florence and his further children.
You are right. Both George Parker and Francis Charles Gibson left their wives, remarried and had second families. I have the marriage record of George Parker and his second wife, Florence Smidt, where he states that the marriage was his first, when it was actually his second.
Thank you for the tips about Ada Marion Parker Hill. The mistranslation of Elisabeth Ann's name 'Slat.... is obviously meant to be Clayton and perhaps was not clear enough to be read correctly. George Parker's mother was Ada Mary Jean, and two of the Parker children were called Ada. 'Marion' is a recurring name in the Clayton family after 1890, perhaps after Marion Martha Clayton (sister of Elisabeth Ann and mother of Francis C Gibson). She also disappears after her marriage in 1882 in London.
I am fairly sure that Ada Marion Parker Hill is the daughter of George and Elisabeth Ann, one of the 2 surviving children that 'Annie' Clayton says she had on the 1900 US census. The other is George. Many thanks for your thoughts about George Parker jnr. He may have died or emigrated as he has not been easy to find after his birth. He could have been adopted and took his adopted family's surname.
I have so much more Gibson information with the obituary links that you have sent. Thank you so much!

Yes, the birth date is out but after such a long time and perhaps with no surviving records, his family may have thought that 1884 was correct. He was born 12 March 1878 to a single mother, Marion Martha Clayton in a home in Chelsea. His mother put her name as Minnie on the birth record, perhaps to avoid scandal.
Marion Martha returned to live with her parents taking her child Charles F Clayton with her. He appears on the 1891 UK census as Thomas and Ellen Clayton's child when he was their grandchild. In 1882, she marries the father, Claude Aislabe Vign Gibson, but does not stay with him. Claude sails for foreign ports almost immediately after the wedding and Marion Martha disappears. She called herself Edith Marion on her marriage certificate.
Francis Charles Gibson's First World War draft card shows his correct birth date.

Hello!
My name is Michelle and I am the great granddaughter to Marion F. Gibson. Frank and Elizabeth came to the United States when Marion was just 4 months old. The immigrated through Boston and eventually found their way to Camden. Frank worked as a butcher in Philadelphia for a while. I'm quite impressed with the amount of information that you and Sandra have been able to obtain, much more than what I have. I have been in touch, in the past, with a distant cousin who lives in Australia that was able to fill in some of the blanks for me. If you have any questions that I can help you with, please let me know. I don't how much I can help, but I'm certainly willing to try.
Sincerely,
Michelle

Hello Michelle
I am happy to hear from you about your Gibson ancestors. I may be the distant cousin in Australia related to the Gibsons through the marriage of Edith Marion Clayton (also Marion Martha Clayton) to Claude Aislabe Vign Gibson in 1882 in London. It appears that this was a marriage of convenience as they had a child, Francis Charles Gibson born 1878, and your direct ancestor, great-great-grandfather. Your g-g-g-grandfather, Claude Gibson came from an upper class military family in the U.K.and India. I have quite a lot of information about them which I could send to you. If you would like to have what I have discovered please email me at (*) and I can attach documents. There is quite a lot.
What I am interested in is Marion F Gibson's mother Elizabeth Hindle born Lancashire c 1882-1885. Did she remarry someone called Fielding as there seems to be a family connection with that name. Did she stay in the US? What became of her sister Coral C Gibson and what did the middle initial C stand for? Are you able to help with any information that you might have from your family research?
I haven't had any more luck with the Parker family since the great help that I received via Rootschat but I will keep researching.
Thank you for getting in touch.
Lorelle
