hello all
does anyone have any information or memories of the isgar family from ely cardiff. my biological mother was phylis may isgar. she lived at 77 frank road ely cardiff. her fathers name was harry isgar. he was a tram conductor with cardiff city. my mother served in the WAAF. during the second world war. she married in 1944. became wilson by marrige and then lived in 232 heol trelai ely cardiff for many years. any help or pointers much appreciated

Quite possible that he is the Harry Isgar was married to Irene Josephine Miller in 1919 in Cardiff, Glamorganshire, Wales.
This ancestry tree has more details
http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=20082010&id=I2064
Irenes parents were
David John Miller and Emma Maria Stone
Harry Isgar's baptism, 20 Sep 1894 at Roath, St Saviour, Glamorganshire, Wales
He is in the 1901 census at Roath with his parents if you have access to a pay site at a public library or friends place.

I wonder if the tree on A*****y is correct - It gives Phyliss' middle name as Muriel not May ???
It gives her d.o.b. as 12 Dec 1921 and her death as May 2002 in Devon
There is a death reg Phyllis Muriel Isgar born 12 Dec 1921 Death May 2002 Torridge Devon
as she was married to William T Wilson surely her death reg would be in the name of Wilson?
and a birth reg for Phylis M Isgar is reg Sept qtr 1922 Cardiff -so the d.o.b. doesn't "fit" either

On the link I posted she is just Phylis M Isgar. No mention of her middle names, are you logged into ancestry Suzard?
free bdm says this:
Births Sep 1922
Isgar Phyllis M Miller Cardiff 11a 804
So there was a Sep 1922 Cardiff birth?
The siblings seem to match too
David when was the last date she was living in 232 heol trelai ely cardiff and are you sure she didn't die with a surname other than Wilson. Is she even deceased? We can't trace a living person in public out of respect for her possible living family

Hi -yes I am on A******y
as we both posted there is a birth reg 1922 for Phylis M Isgar mother's maiden name Miller
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/Themes/genealogy/images/bbc/sub.gif
On the tree I mentioned d.o.b. is given as 12 Dec 1921 and death May 2002 Devon
but this is the death reg (and d.o.b. given on same record)for Phyllis Muriel Isgar
Surely we are looking for a death reg of Phyllis May Wilson??

think I may have solved the error on the a******y tree
the death reg of Phyliss Muriel Isgar is that of the wife of Idris Ronald Isgar.
Marriage reg FreeBMD
Dec qtr 1945 Bideford
Idris R Isgar
Phyliss M Wicketts
5b 1105
Idris Ronald died 6 Nov 1988 his death reg reads Idris R Isgar born 9 July 1922 death reg Nov 1988 Stratton Cornwall
he was born Sept qtr 1922 Cardiff mother's maiden name King-maybe further back there is some connection to Phyllis May Isgar from birth

Hi David,
Is this the death of your grandfather?
Deaths Jun Q 1971
ISGAR Harry born 20 Aug 1894 Cardiff 8b 1122
As mentioned, Harry married Irene J Miller in Cardiff Dec Q 1919 volume 11a page 1190
Free search of the 1939 register index has Irene J Isgar in Cardiff with 2 records closed (possibly children still living by 1991, when the register closed, it was updated till then by the NHS) Register and free to search the index http://www.findmypast.co.uk/1939register
The couple appear to have had 3 children 1920 -1928 mothers maiden name Miller. You can search here https://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/search.pl
Are any of these still living?
Rootschat Policy allows no living individuals to be named due to identity protection. Your mother is likely child of above marriage, born 1922.
Harry is not with family in 1939 register as rejoined with the forces in 1938. Fought in WW1 also.

hi all
to all who have contributed to this thread i am very grateful. much useful information has emerged thanks to all. to clarify : i am the biological son of phylis may wilson nee isgar. phylis was last residing in penarth so i was told. she has no connection with the devon side as she was definately cardiff born and bred. 77 frank road ely was her address prior to her marrige to wilson in 1944 her marrige certificate states she was in the RAF. L.A.C/W 428065 W.A.A.F (MACHINIST). most likely st athan. wilson was also RAF L.A.C 1138826 APPRENTICE FITTER). hence there meeting. it would also appear that according to kellys directory of 1964 the mentioned brother of phylis harold r isgar was living at 7 dunmuir road tremorfa.
