Title: Odd occupation
Post by: Jackiemh on Thursday 15 June 17 06:10 BST (UK)
I have come across an Ann Maria Bellati b1831 in the 1851 Census resident in Saffron Hill who lists her occupation as Blond worker. Any ideas? I have looked at the original and it does appear that the transcription is correct.
Her husband, Santino b1823 is a Cage maker (for birds is noted on the 1861 Census) but Ann's occupation is not listed then.
I am stumped.

On this thread there is mention of a Blond runner having something to do with lace making.

Also note in "Tradespeople to Queen Adelaide" 1844, Kensington Blond Lace Manufacturers, Jones and Co, Southampton St, Covent Garden.

Thank you for your replies. I did look it up on the 'old occupation names' site but didn't find anything there. The connection to lace making would make sense for that area of London. I may have found her in a later census - occupation needlewoman. Will look into that one tomorrow.
Another one for my odds and ends file.
