Title: Mary or Minnie Wind or Winn b Aug 1865 New York
Post by: Cockneyrebel on Thursday 15 June 17 15:54 BST (UK)
The above was the daughter of Anthony Wind or Winn and Mary Donnelly, she married Levi Slipper 5 May 1886 Panshill, Middlesex, Ontario, he was from Belgium and a barber, he passed before 1900 as Minnie is shown on the 1900 US census as a widow living with in laws and son Fred Winn Slipper b 10 Feb 1887 Forest, Ontario, at 371, North Clark Street, Chicago Ward 24, Cook, Illinois.
After that Minnie or Mary disappears and I can find no dod for Levi either.
Fred married Phyllis Mary O Driscoll who was b c. 1892 Mobile, Newfoundland, 31 Dec 1912 at York, Ontario. They had 2 daughters Mary Winn Slipper 16 Sep 1914 Chicago and Betty bc1924 Ontario, as mother and 2 daughters shown travelling from Newfoundland to Quebec 19 Oct 1932.
Fred wasn't with them. Wonder if there were any more children between 1914 and 1924?
However I can find no records of that family nor whether Minnie married again or when she passed. Looks like they were all wandering between Canada and USA?
Help please

On www.fultonhistory.com, if you do a search for "Minnie Slipper" (in quotation marks), there are some articles from the Chicago Tribune from 1906 about Minnie being sued by a collection agency for a small bill.  One of the articles references her son Fred Slipper being summonsed.

Also on that site, if you do a Boolean search for Levi w/2 slipper and Chicago, Levi is in the Chicago Tribune, 17 Feb. 1900.  In a list of burial permits issued by the Health Department, it says "Slipper, Levi, 37, 371 N. Clark st., Feb. 14".

Levi comes up on the Illinois death index too - http://www.ilsos.gov/isavital/deathsrch.jsp

He is mistranscribed as Slippen here - https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:Q2MZ-ZTD5

I wonder if this marriage is Mary/Minnie - https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:N7HG-W41

This 1913 passenger list has Mary in Toronto - https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:K8MX-26Z

And the 1920 census fits with her being born in New York - https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:MJWK-G5D

I think this is the marriage for Mary's potential stepdaughter Francis from the 1920 census - https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:27DV-CMC  The certificate has George Wm. Vaux in Toronto, so maybe Mary/Minnie was there as well.

This looks like Frances in the 1930 census - https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:X44L-H58

Good finds, RJ & Sandra!

In re-reading one of those articles from 5 Apr. 1906, it says, "Mrs. Slipper has a friend in George W. Vaux, assistant passenger agent of the Grand Trunk railroad, and he ascertained what the costs were going to be in the end..."

This looks like the obituary for George Vaux's first wife, who was survived by 3 children - http://archives.chicagotribune.com/1906/05/17/page/5/article/obituary-1-no-title

This looks like them in 1900 with Geo. W. mistranscribed as Geoff - https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:MSQ8-TRT  The son George Herbert would fit with the Herbert Vaux found above.

This appears to be George Vaux's daughter Alma in 1920 with an aunt Mabel Vaux - https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:MJQG-VHJ

And 1940 - https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:KW43-MTH

A cemetery database says that Alma's ashes were buried in 1976, but I can't find an exact date of death for her.

Hi

Obituary for Phyllis Mary (O'Driscoll) Slipper in the Globe and Mail newspaper.  She died at St. Michael's hospital on April 4, 1969.  Wife of the late Fred Winn Slipper.  Mother of Mary Winn (Mrs Robert Jamieson) and B. (Mrs R F Petry) of Bracebridge.  Interment Holy Cross Cemetery.

Globe and Mail, 6 April 1969, page 49.

Not sure if we should name the second daughter... born in 1924.   No other children mentioned in the obituary.  Looks like there were only 2.
