Title: Fenagh parish records c. 1840
Post by: johugo on Friday 23 June 17 16:42 BST (UK)
I have, by an extreme stroke of luck, found a certified copy of an entry in the 'Register of Baptisms from the parish of Fenagh in the county of Carlow' that was used for a British Civil Service proof of age document.

The entry is for the brother of my 2nd great grandmother, Anne Dillon, and lists the birth and baptism of Nathaniel Dillon, born 9 May 1845, baptised 8 June 1845, son of Thomas and Eliza Dillon, farmer residing at Ballyknockan, baptised by H S King.

It has taken me years to find any records relating to this family, since the Fenagh records do not seem to be transcribed on any sites, and I live in South Africa.

My questions are: do these records still exist, and, if so, where are they kept and how can one access them?

They appear to be Church of Ireland records.

Any help would be appreciated...

Kind regards, Jo Hugo

Dathai

Wow! Thank you so much! I had traced Nathaniel through his marriage to Lucy Connor(s) (Inez was a mis-transcription of Lucy on the 1871 census record!) and the births of his children John (who may have died in 1884 in Carlow age 18) and Elizabeth, to his death in 1887 in London – but i hadn't found his son Thomas, or what had happened to Lucy. I will check up her sister Ellen's records to make sure she was also a Connor.

All the records you have found stack up – with the names of the children especially. Thomas may have been born in late 1871 in Shoreditch, where they were in the 1871 census (there are loads of births to choose from).

Thanks a million – I would probably never have found those...

Kind regards, Jo
