Title: Western Australian (South West) - Noongar - MAGARIN
Post by: Ozzyboi on Tuesday 27 June 17 11:08 BST (UK)
Tracing my great great grandfather, very little information known on him other than he was born around 1841 and died sometime around 1939 presumably before.  He married Emma Bennell.  Not sure if he was known by another name.  He would of lived his married life around Narrogin.  Have heard that he may have come down from the Kimberleys.

Magarin, that's the only name listed on the family tree we have.

Is that a first name or last?

What is your source of the marriage, as I can't find a record on WABDM?

I've just noticed that you are new to RC. A hearty welcome to you.

I think it would be helpful if you could give as much information from the tree that you have, as often it assists with making connections.

Hi  Ozzyboi

Found this burial at Narrogin Cemetery, could it be one of your relatives?

BENNELL , Elsie May . 8 December 1966 . Aged 47 years.

Was  Magarin an Indigenous Australian do you know?

Do you have his marriage cerificate to Emma?

Wow thanks for all the responses!  We only have a family tree, with the name Magarin on it he was definitely an aboriginal, not sure if he also went by Daniel Corrup, he is the father of Billy Kelly.  We have other people that went by single names on the family tree, Dilyan and Korap (which we have found info on).   The family tree came from South West Land and Sea Council.

It may be difficult to find information about his birth and early life, but there should be a record of his death, presumably a death certificate. :-\

I have no knowledge of WA certificates but other states include parent's names, children, plus other information on the death certificate.

I don't suppose you have the family tree online so anyone able to help you can have a look at it?  :)

Inspired by CoL's excellent discoveries, I had a look in Trove and found mention of your ancestor Dilyan. You may already be aware of this, but it appears he helped the early surveyors:

No obvious mentions of any of the others in Trove.

We ve only just started our research after seeing the family tree, so interesting to hear about Jimmy Kelly, surely that would be the same man as Magarin. Thanks cupoflife for your help.

What is the "family tree" you refer to? Who compiled this tree?

If you would like more help, can you give us some more information? Perhaps tell is what you already have, and what you still need to find out, and someone may be able to help you fill in the gaps.

As I mentioned earlier, a link to the tree if it is online would be useful. Depending on how much detail it contains, and how large it is, even a photo of the tree if it is on paper would help.

That is the burial CoL found in reply #10. Age at death it a bit at odds with the police records giving his age, thouh presumably in both cases they are probably someone's best guess.
