Title: GRO double birth entry
Post by: durhamgirl73 on Wednesday 28 June 17 20:03 BST (UK)
Hi I was looking up a GRO birth reference when I noticed that John William Mullenger (Hartismere) 1881 had two references any idea why? Thanks.

I can see John William Mullenger, Sep qtr 1881 Hartismere 4a 631 (per FreeBMD).

What is the other one?

Oh I see, the other one indexed on the GRO site gives the same details but 3b 631 (in each case the mother's maiden name is Beaumont).

This one doesn't appear in the printed GRO index, so unless it's just an error I don't know what the explanation would be.

MULLENGER, JOHN  WILLIAM  Mmn    BEAUMONT
GRO Reference: 1881  S Quarter in HARTISMERE  Volume 03B  Page 631

MULLENGER, JOHN  WILLIAM  Mmm    BEAUMONT
GRO Reference: 1881  S Quarter in HARTISMERE  Volume 04A  Page 631

Both appear on the GRO index, but the vol num different, one for the GRO to explain, or one who knows?

Cas

Clearly a GRO error - Hartismere volume number definitely not 3B.
