Gosh! That's amazing! Where did you find this? Definitely same family & I am focusing on Cochrane the eldest of Daniel who came to NZ at age 6 yrs. still some mysteries to solve but that's fantastic - thank you so much. And interesting that we go back to Ireland, like so many. Thank you

Hi Shanghaipanda - I think Indidn't do my reply correctly. Thank you for sending that tree & it is definitely the same family with interesting detail. Still some mysteries for me to solve as I am linked to Cochrane, eldest son of Daniel Jnr & Catharine. Where did you find this? That's terrific!! Thanks!

Just google "daniel weir + cochrane". As I suggested - you will need to double check the authenticity of the records as many family trees are found to be less than accurate !!

Thank you so much for your help!

Here is the family at 1841 and 1851
As son Daniel married in 1840, he does not appear on either of these returns with his parents and siblings.
Subsequent marriages for at least some of his siblings should be fairly easy to locate.
1841: Bells Mills, Edinburgh.
Cochran Weir 45 Ag Labourer b Ireland
Sarah Karron Weir 35 Ireland
Elizabeth Weir 25 B Ireland
James Weir 20 B Midlothian ( all others b Midlothian)
Hugh Weir 15
Agnes Weir 13
Robert Weir 11
Joseph Weir 9
Andrew Weir 3
1851: Dean Path, Edinburgh
Name Age
Cochrane Weir 59
Sarah Weir 60
Elizabeth Weir 34
Nancy Weir 24 ( Agnes Weir married James McKay in Aug 1851)
Robert Weir 22 ( Robert Married Isabella Young in Jul 1856. Last known child b 1865 but wife was remarried to Robert Anderson by 1871)
Joseph Weir 20 ( possibly married Jessie Stewart in 1855)
Andrew Weir 13
Sarah Weir 3 Granddaughter B Midlothian
* Marriages of siblings Robert, Agnes and Joseph show they had children named Cochrane and/ or Sarah Kerr

Gosh, thank you! I notice a discrepancy with Sarah's age between the two census. Is there any way I can check? Great info anyway. Thanks so much!
-
the 1841 census rounded adult ages up/down to the nearest 5 so age will not be exact
1861: Dean Path, Edinburgh
Cochane Weir 66
Sarah Weir 66
Sarah Weir 13
Sarah Weir 4
Her death of 1870 shows she was 74yrs at ime of death so her age is fluctuating with every record
Scottish deaths are indexed under both married and maiden names

Ok. Appreciate your help!

Hayjood, if you get those death certificates for Cochrane Weir and Sarah Kerr they should tell you the names of their parents, including their mothers' maiden surnames, and assuming of course that whoever registered the deaths knew that information. Go to www.scotlandpeople.gov.uk for this. It will cost you about the same as a cup of coffee to view each document.
I don't like the way that tree is set out with all the sons together and then all the daughters afterwards. It means that you don't know their order of birth, and therefore you can't make an informed guess about the names of their parents.

Thank you for your help Forfarian. Which Tree are you referring to? I definitely like to put all family members in age/birth order. very messy otherwise. thanks!

Which Tree are you referring to?
The Weir one that shanghaipanda found.

Yes, I am double checking birth dates but this was certainly a big help & lots of detail. Thanks for your interest!
