Title: 1901 CENSUS Edith Yeomans St Pancras
Post by: crowboy97 on Wednesday 05 July 17 10:45 BST (UK)
Good day Rootschatters,

Edith Yeomans b.1893 is shown at the 1901 Census as a schoolgirl at what appears to be an educational institution in St Pancras London.  Could someone confirm this please?
Also her place of birth is recorded as Co Not Street?  I am suspecting Connaught Street but could someone provide some wisdom on this point please as well.

Kind regards
Crowboy

I think it could be England Co Not St meaning County Not Stated.

Written down the place of birth column is "foundling children not known" to cover all the children on the page.

There are pages of children all with the same notation.

London - St Pancras - Grays Inn Lane - District Foundling Hospital

Her birth place is recorded as unknown in both 1901 and 1911, it was an orphanage, she has graduated to servant in 1911.

This information fits what little is known about her.

I Suspect she is the same 33 year old Edith Yeomans admitted to the workhouse Hammersmiith with a 6 day old male child in 1925.

Addendum

The birth of a William Yeomans, mother's name Yeomans registered in Kensington Dec. Qtr 1925, fits the workhouse entry.

Closest Edith births may be . . . .

1891 YEOMANS, EDITH ( mmn LAZELL } Islington
1895 YEOMANS, EDITH ( mmn - ) Kiddeminster

If she were a "foundling" then she may not have known her true age, just an approximation (from someone) ?

Also if she was a foundling I doubt if the birth would have been registered and the mother probably would have been unmarried. They may have given her that name when she was admitted to the Childrens' Home.

The 1891 birth would seem to be  to Fred & Eliz Sarah (Lazell) (m 1885 Billericay)

Fred Eliz Edith would seem to be together in Islington in 1891
Although Edith recorded as "4" !!!!?

Thank you Ray, Jebber et al - you guys are all over it!

I had isolated Edith daughter of Fred and Elizabeth as a possible but have eliminated her since she is enumerated as a dressmaker still living at home in 1911.

A marriage of Edith Yeomans to Charles Dagnan in June Q 1927 piques my interest followed by her death in June Q 1934

Once again. Thank you all for your help.

There were ten female babies registered in the London area in1892/1893
all registered as Famale surname Unknown, any of theses could have been Edith if she was a foundling.
