Born 18.09.1891 Farmcombe. Married in 1919 to Constance Mary Irwin at which time he'd just returned from army service (Royal Marines) and described as a Motor Garage Manager in Broadstairs. He died in 1971 in Folkestone, Kent.
He had a daughter, June Cynthia Frances Chalcraft.
I can find nothing more about his parents, siblings etc.
Can anybody help?

Completely bamboozled by all this contradictory information.
Who were William Joshua Chalcraft's parents? Francis 1868 and Fanny Hurren 1868? Married 1887.
Who was married in 1867?
Who is Katherine Elizabeth Butcher born 1878.
Help!
-
Hi, it's not contradictory - perhaps Trish has given you too much at once.
It helps if you write it down, then it becomes clearer.
FRANCIS CHALCRAFT married FRANCES (FANNY) ELIZABETH HURREN 20th Nov 1887 Farnham.
FRANCIS's father was WILLIAM CHALCRAFT
FANNY's father was JOSHUA HURREN
JOSHUA HURREN married CATHERINE BUTCHER 1867 Yarmouth.
CATHERINE ELIZABETH BUTCHER is Fanny's mother and was born 1848.
Hope that makes it clearer.
-
I think you're right, Trish is excellent but all the info at one threw me completely. Thanks for making it more understandable and thanks Trish.
-
William Joshua Chalcraft (1891 - 1971) married Constance Mary Irwin. His father Francis Chalcraft (1868 - 1918) married Fanny Elizabeth Hurren.
That's my understanding so far.
-
Yes, I changed my post as I'd got muddled, sorry. That looks correct so far.
-
Thanks for clarifying groom.
So I confused you Archivist_47. I get a bit carried away sometimes :D
-
Thanks Trish, all I've got to do now is track down the garage he ran and find out a bit more about his military service.
-
Are you on Ancestry? There are several trees with this family and they include a photo of William Joshua in his uniform.
-
Looks as if his records may be available to download from here

-
Groom, how do I access someone's tree on ancestry. I have an account but it's the 'free' version.
-
I'm afraid I don't know that as I have a subscription. I wonder if you can do it when Ancestry offer free weekends? Someone on here might know the answer.
-
According to Broadstairs and Margate Library, Jamesville, Ciderdrinker, is a house rather than a place.

Hi new to this my grandfather Joshua Chalcraft was born 1930 in Godalming to Charles Frederick Chalcraft one of his brothers was William born 1891 their father and mother Francis Chalcraft and Fanny Hurren. Francis’s parents I believe to be William born 1837 and Maryann Beatie. I also have Williams parents as William dob 1797 and Jane tilbury. Does this tie in with anyone’s info?
-
My mother's parents were William Joshua Chalcraft 1891-1971 and Constance Mary Irwin 1895-1983.
Joshua's parents were Francis Chalcraft 1868-1918 and Fanny Elizabeth Hurley 1867-?
You say your grandfather was Joshua Chalcraft 1930-? Who are William Chalcraft 1797-? and Jane Tilbury?
-
Possibly Francis’s grandparents don’t have access to the census now and have not researched for a couple of years but they married in headley Hampshire and later appeared in Godalming in a census William being born 1797 and Jane 1804. I also have William born 1837 in cow lane Godalming married to Maryann Beatie these two I am sure are the parents of Francis who lived in hare lane Godalming. My grandad lived in Catteshall Lane Godalming as a child. His dad Charles had brothers William Walter Thomas and frank and a sister Frances. I’m just not 100% on the William and Jane part but there is definitely a couple and children listed on one of the census’s and the ages seem to match.
-
Sorry my grandads parents were Charles chalcraft and Beatrice (Amy) remnant my granddads grandparents were Francis chalcraft married fanny hurren
-
That makes your William my grandads uncle
-
One of our ancestors was the last person to be hanged in Godalming but you probably knew that
-
I'm still trying to get the family tree straight. Do you have Ancestry or some other tree?
-
No just researched on free sites and had a subscription to one site can’t remember which one just traced back from my grandads birth certificate and census info some time ago
-
Does any of your info match mine?
-
Was Charles Frederick Chalcraft born in 1894? He is my Great Uncle
-
Yes born 1894 he died young and was a laundry worker . The cottage they lived in is still standing and there are chalcrafts still in Godalming and Farncombe
-
Try searching on 57 Catteshall lane and 1 or 1b Victoria rd Godalming. Fanny hurren died 1948
-
Where are you in the country? Do you have any photos or documents pertaining to your grandfather and his relations?
-
Living in Farncombe Godalming will have to get certificate from my mum. Have a photo somewhere of my great grandad Charles.
