my husband has asked me to do his family tree.
I thought I would start with his grandfather but I haven't been able to find him
his name was Thomas William Kelly he was born in Victoria his mother was named Sylvia
I have his death in western Australia as 15.03.2008 it said that he was 71 years old
is there anyone who could help me start this tree please

Sadly there is a 100 year restriction on birth information in Victoria and as your Thomas was born c1937 it will be difficult to help but I'll have a peep at my marriage disc and see if I can see a KELLY marrying a Sylvia in the time frame.

No help as there are 7 marriages in Victoria 1920-1936 with a spouse named Sylvia.

I'm puzzled as you said he was born in Victoria and this man was born at Midland Junction, WA.
Possible marriage as Thomas was born in Western Australia :-\

I think that's the right person I think they were married in Victoria. he was born there
I think he had a brother named ron or roy his mums name was silvia
oh I found the thing he was cremated there is a record at the bunbury cemetery, that's how I found out his middle name

yes Anthony told me he trained on the Sydney but then he had problems with his ears. so he had to leave to have an operation.

Yes. Thomas Wm's parents were Charles KELLY and Sylvia Margaret Dorothy ROADS.

It's difficult when you start researching. Just write everything down and you'll soon sort it all out. I've been doing this for more years than I like to remember but it's so much easier today than years ago.
I'll have another look at this tomorrow....and others will help. Bit late for me....

So you were aware of Sylvia's second marriage?
Charles and Sylvia's marriage certificate would show their ages, places of birth, parents' names including mothers' maiden names.
You can order it from

Search for the marriage entry on the index; click on order; complete the details and lodge. It will cost $34 as the event occurred more than 75 years ago. Details on death certificate are not always accurate and I prefer to purchase marriage certificates as the information was given by the participant and not a third party.
Details on certificates in Aus however the range of years for marriage certs in WA isn't correct. Index now extends to 1936.
