Hello All,
I'm trying to find details on my Great-Great Grandfather Eugene AKA Owen Gallagher. He was born around the year 1863 and married on the 18 September 1893 in Glasgow, Scotland to Teresa O'Connor. He died on the 02 December 1938 in Glasgow. His death certificate lists his parents as Hugh Gallagher and Bridget O'Brien. I cannot find any birth record for him but the family says the Gallagher side originally came from Tyrone in Ireland.
Any details on his date of birth and parents and siblings would be much appreciated.

Hi Tony,
Does the parents names match on his marriage which would be more reliable than that of info. on a death cert. which is from a 3rd party not himself?

Hi All,
The Marriage Certificate does match yes. I'm interested in this James Gallagher. Is McBrine another way of saying O'Brien? If so, I may need to investigate that thread further.
Cheers,
Tony

A possible for the family identified in the birth record found in the 1901 Census:

Surname / Forename / Age / Sex / Relation to head /Religion
Gallagher Bridget 76 Female Head of Family Roman Catholic
Gallagher Charles 53 Male Son Roman Catholic

Is McBrine another way of saying O'Brien?
Mc/Mac/O' all mean 'son of'
'Brine/Brien' would be an accent difference....how it was pronounced/heard....
The joys of genealogy ;)

Eugene's baptism (bottom right) on March 13, 1863

Note one of the sponsors is Eugene McBrine. Parish is Trillick (Kilskeery).

Many thanks! Amazing you found that Eileen, I can't actually read the record fully - does it say Eugene is son of HUGH and Bridget Gallagher? I think we've almost reached a conclusion now. Charles and Hugh being other children seems very logical since Eugene himself had a son Hugh (my G-Grandfather) and a son Charles.
Never knew about McBrine being same as O'Brien - thanks Annie. I guess James is another son.
Just found death record of Bridget Gallagher on Irish Genealogy - they transcribed it as "Birdget Gallagher" which made it a pain to find. She died on June 1st 1901 aged 75 years which fits.
Thanks again,
Tony

Hello All,
Will there be any possibility of finding the parents of Hugh Gallagher and Bridget O'Brien?
Do Baptismal records like Eugene's go back that far?
Thanks

From NLI site...
"The start dates of the registers vary from the 1740/50s in some city parishes in Dublin, Cork, Galway, Waterford and Limerick, to the 1780/90s in counties such as Kildare, Wexford, Waterford and Kilkenny. Registers for parishes along the western seaboard do not generally begin until the 1850/60s"

Check out the parish records to which I linked ... I believe they go back to the 1820s. I saw several Gallaghers and McBrines. You could probably spend hours putting together family groups.
The records are in Latin; hence, Eugenus and Hughum(?).

Tony,
I'm struggling to read it too but looks like...
Eugenius Gollaher of Hugene & Brigida Gollaher
Spouse. Eugenius McBrine? & Laragh McBrine
The 2 McBrine folk sponsors/witnesses?
Annie

Not spouse; should be sponsors (godparents).

Thanks Eileen for clarifying as I found it difficult to read & couldn't copy/save it to enhance it either to make it more legible.

The link to Irish Ancestors at the bottom of the main page of each parish will give dates of all known registers for the parish and where they are.

Sinann,
I used the features but the word I thought was Spouse which was actually Sponsors (threw me) although I thought it should be Sponsors it just didn't look like it i.e. I couldn't be sure & most likely because it was right after the wife's name it was a bit confusing ;D
All confirmed now thankfully ;)
