Does anyone know the location of India Street, Liverpool about 1860.
It does not seem to be on any of my maps.
Thanks

There doesn't appear to be an India Street in Liverpool, where did you get the information from? There is an India Buildings with the main entrance on to Water Street. The nearest in spelling is Index Street.

There is an India Place in the 1861 Census

My thanks to all for the speedy responses.
Kay 99 that could well be the one unless the one located by Ellenmai is more into Everton.
Thanks again

It's the same one ;D

I rather thought it must be. Strange that the street does not appear on the 1901 series of maps. The area it is in is just blank.

My Dad lived there so there certainly was an India Street in Everton, Liverpool ;D

It is on all the Census though, if you are looking for someone.

Yes the name is missing off some maps. Here's another map with it named.

you can search 1861 census by address on FindMyPast, try selecting one of the households on India Street Lancashire and "walk the streets" - enumerators generally enumerated in some sort of logical order, you might be able to place it by reference to surrounding streets, pubs etc. I selected one at random and that was in Everton but that's not to say there might not be other streets by the same name in the general area of Liverpool.

To find it on maps where it is not named look at the street between the top parts of Roscommon Street and Cornwall Street, towards the Netherfield Road South ends of Roscommon and Cornwall Streets.

Thank you everyone. I just googled "India Street, Everton" as this is what I thought a semi-legible address on a poor copy of birth certificate from 1899 was. Not only confirmed it, you gave me a map, which I think explains the other address, which was even less legible, but I think starts with R and was quite long. The more I look at it, the more it appears to be "Roscommon Street, W.D." So you are answering questions I didn't even know I was going to ask ;D

You're welcome.
