Having recently asked for help for an item in the Islington Gazette I was unable to find what I wanted, BUT, I have now discovered that a child born 1893 to the same mother, (I have his birth cert, father shown as dec'd ) has now been shown in the local paper claiming maintenance but against someone else not named on his birth cert, how can that be, she was awarded 5s a week in this instance, I am completely flummoxed, in the days when DNA wasn't around how can it be proven that this child was fathered by another man not shown on his birth cert, bearing in mind this woman also took out against a claim from her ex whom she never married for a child born 1891
I do know the child mentioned is also showing his mother and his correct date of birth but no name in the Islington Gazette , claim made 1894 so I know it is the right child

Maybe because the father on the birth cert was deceased? Or the real father admitted responsibility :-\

Well to be honest the person on the birth cert she had been married to some 25 years previously and I know for a fact he was still alive, ( she had lived with my great grandfather for 20 years or there abouts), so being shown as her first husband and "dec'd " was a fib anyway
Still I must accept whatever is thrown up as I cannot change any of it, just wish, as always that I had asked my grandmother more questions but we were almost seen and not heard
I feel disappointed to be honest Milliepede, I guess you might be right that the man declared responsibility, I have checked his details and he had no other children having been married to the same woman for years, they are becoming quite a mixed up bunch,
