His Hussars number gives a joining date of around mid-late 1901 so just about in for someone born 1881.
Do you have anything to suggest either of these are your man ?

His Wife was from an Army Family &  there are photos of her & a corresponding one of a dashing soldier with a Ceremonial War Sword. He was wearing a stack of medals in old age but i can't make out the type!!

The Boer War 3rd Hussars man was Albert of Boscombe near Bournemouth, father John of Boscombe later London served 10 99 to 01 05 - doesn't seem to add up with Marylebone.

My Grandad had those + 5 clasps in total. Not germane to this but I like to mention it at every opportunity.

And why not as Barry Norman the recently passed film critic is alleged to have said.

That's good, I got the impression that you had all this already.  Onwards:

Jim's question abut the medals I'm sure would be to see if the "stack full of medals" you mention were the South Africa medal with, we now know, three clasps, and, if it is the same man, two more from the Great War.  As you've no doubt realised, the RAMC man's records have not survived so the medal info is all there is.  Absent voters list for 1918 might help?  Marriage cert if during the Great War??

From the age point of view, born 1882 would be totally possible for service in both Boer and Great War.  The family info certainly ads up to the Boer War man.

Albert & His brother moved from London to Bmth. Census has them in London then appearing in Christchurch /Bmth area. Albert is buried in Christchurch. Died 1959. Married twice. First wife died (Susannh McMullen) she is buried in Bmth Cem. Second wife Annie Royfee. Feel free to look at the tree on line. Pictures of the medals are on Albert's page/Gallery. These are still held by the family. Second set is his son Harold's. Alberts father moved from Sussex (related to BROOKER families - farmers). Particularly East Grinstead. Alberts mother Sarah was from Horton in Dorset (born 1813?) which means he would have had relatives in this area and may explain the move. Regards all. R
