JAMES MILLER c 1801 he married MARY MOWAT 1826 in Wick they were my gggrandparents

JOHN MILLER b 1803 no info.

CHRISTIAN MILLER C. 1806 no info.

ALEXANDER MILLER C. 1810 he married ISABEL HARPER 1838 in Wick

DONALD MILLER c. 1813 he married MARY COGHILL 1843 in Wick. I have more info on their family.

If anyone can connect to these Miller's I would be pleased to hear from you.

I believe we have a connection!!

I have the death certificate of Catherine Reid (nee Miller) and it lists her parents as Alexander Miller and Elizabeth Harper. I also have her in a few census returns.

She married David Reid in 1825 and had nine children

James, David, Elizabeth, Jane, Christina, Alexander, Catherine, Donald (direct line) and William.

Alexander Reid and his brother Donald moved to Birkenhead around 1860.

Hi,
Thank you for your reply. I did find the record on IGI which made me think that William and Christian could have been his parents, I will try and verify this by getting the extract from Scotlands People.

Best wishes
Mary.

Hello from New Zealand

On my mother's family tree (Reid), we have my great-great-great grandfather, John Reid of Keiss (baptised there, 1733) marrying Margaret Miller (bap. 1722)of Wick.  They were married in 1765 at Keiss/Neibster and had a son called Alexander Reid (born around 1768) who married the daughter of John Sinclair of Stain, Keiss in 1799.  She was Jane (possibly Jean) Sinclair.  Margaret's son, Alexander died 1937 in Pulteneytown.

Sandra, it's lovely when long-lost branches of a family are re-united here but you will need to use PM (Personal Mrssage) to exchange details of other living relatives, email addresses. telephone numbers, etc. since Rootschat does not allow posting of such details on the boards.

Please read the Posting Guidelines in the Help pages and abide by the rules.

HI - just joined this site.  I have just started my Family Tree re Miller.
James Miller and Mary Miller nee Mowat were my ggg grandparents.  They had a son called Alexander Miller born c 1836 and he married Janet Miller nee Mackay on 28th December 1859 in Wick. They probably had more children but cant trace.  Alexander and Mary had a son Alexander Miller born c 1859 and he married Johan (Joan) Miller nee MacKay  on 11th June 1880 in Wick.. They had a son Alexander McKay Miller born 1886 and he married Elizabeth McGregor Miller nee Hewitt in Perth on 5th September 1906. Alexander McKay Miller and Elizabeth were my mother's parents.

Do you think there is a connection here.

Would like to hear from you

Hi, My fathers name was Derek Miller. I know very little of his background other than he had a connection to Wick (either born there or was adopted there for a while). His birth would have been around 1933 (give or take a couple of years) and he served with the Cameroons as a young man.

My great grandmother was Jane Bruce Miller [b: 22.06.1885, d: 08.12.1957]. She was born in Craigston, Wick.

Her father was Murdoch Miller [b: 05.11.1841 in Olrig, d: 14.06.1908 in Wick] and her mother was Jane Oag [b: abt 1846 in Thurso, d: before 1909].

I have got back as far William Miller [b: 1776 d: 18.12.1862 in Howe, Wick]

I don't know if this any use.  I think I have much of the documentation and I am naturally more than happy to share what I have / know.

I am new to this forum but approaching 70 thought it high time to link with my roots. My paternal roots that is and not helped by my father being a dark horse during the short time I knew him as a boy. So my hope is by putting what little information I have out there it might get picked up as a piece in another's jigsaw puzzle.
The given knowledge from my childhood was that we hailed from Wick and my grandfather or great-grandfather was once Town Clerk there. My father's family were migrants to Birmingham, when I do not know. My father was RODERICK AUSTEN MILLER (born 1910) and he had a brother DUNCAN who apparently left for the USA under a cloud, and I never knew him.
Who knows this may trigger something!!!!
Regards, MALCOLM MILLER

This was done by my great grandfather, William Murrey Miller, in 1911, "so far as known from records". It's not easy to read, in a sort of Gothic script.

James Miller, born Kilminster (Wick), 1759, died 1838. Married Elizabeth Sandison 1779. They had:
David, born Kilminster 1780, d. 1862. Married Ann Cormac 1825
John, b. 1782, d. 1860
Jean, b. 1785, died In infancy.
William, b. 1788, d. 1860. He had Ann, James, Robert, Harry
James, b. 1792, d. 1838

David Miller and Ann Cormac had:
Margaret, b. 1826, d. 1829
James, b. 1829, d. 1892, m. Margaret Moir in Blythewood, Glasgow, 1856
Elizabeth, b. 1831, d. 1876
Ann, b. 1836, d. 1866 at sea, m. Captain James Mitchell 1862

James Miller and Margaret Moir had:
David Waddel Miller, b. 1857, d. 1859
John Moir Miller, b. 1859, d. 1898
James Andrew Miller, b. 1861, d. 1905, m. Ana Magdella Gilbertson at Pietermaritzburg 1891
David Wares Miller, b. 1863, d. 1886
William Murrey Miller, b. 1865, m. Ethel Gertrude Anne Vyfhius at St Lukes, Demerara (South America) in 1889
Margaret Mitchell Miller, b. 1867, m. John Turnbull Smith in Glasgow, 1892
Frederick Miller, b. 1873, d. 1875
Hendry Miller, b. 1876, m. Agnes MacFadyen 1903
Elizabeth Wares Miller b. 1879, d. 1911

William Murrey Miller and Gertrude Vyfhuis had:
Murrey James Vyfhuis Miller, b. 1890 in St Lukes, Demerara
Muriel Margaret Thulia Miller, b. 1892 in Cumbrae, Scotland
Dorothy Ethel Miller, b. 1895 in Claydon, Suffolk
Phyllis Edith Miller, b. 1898 in Wellesley, Penang
Joyce Maud Miller, b. 1901 in Wellesley, Penang
