Dear Members, I trying to track down the relatives of a Peebles warhero named Sgt John McLauchlan. John McLauchlan was the Wireless Operator of a 620 Sqdn Stirling bomber shotdown 26th July 1943 over the Dutch village Lieshout. His aircraft returned from a raid on the German capital city Essen and intercepted by a german nightfighter. Sgt John McLauchlan was 29 when he died and was the son of John McLauchlan and Margaret McLauchlan(Neé Learmonth) of Peebles, husband of Agnes Brodie McLauchlan of Peebles. Later I will erect a memorial and write a booklet in memory of this crew.
Any help much appreciated!! Many Thanks,
Adrian van Zantvoort

Possible sibling for John - SP Index has Andrew Learmonth McLauchlan born in 1917 in Peebles. Unfortunately this is not viewable online.
Andrew married a Mary Margaret Scott in Peebles in 1946 again not viewable online yet.
Difficult to trace after this online at SP because of the rules - 100 years for a birth, 75 years for a marriage and 50 years for a death.
One option you might like to try lancaster103 is to contact the local newspaper to see if they can help with any descendants www.peeblesshirenews.com
Good Luck
Dorrie
P.S. Just had a thought. I have a cousin who lives in Peebles and I will ask him if he knows the surname of McLauchlan.

That looks very promising ev as there would appear to be no deaths in SP index that would match Andrew or Mary.
Looking at 20 Belmont Road, St.Hellier, Jersey it is now the Surrey Lodge Guest House. The present owners have been there since 1981.
I wonder if it might be possible for lancaster103 to contact them to ask if they know anything of the McLauchlan family. If there were children from the marriage they could still be alive. The email address is surreylodge@hotmail.co.uk
