Title: Looking for Family Dwyer
Post by: Melanie Dwyer on Sunday 16 July 17 21:44 BST (UK)
I've been using ancestry to find members of my family for a long time and I've seemed to have reached a brick wall. My 2nd Great Grandfather was named Edward Dwyer and he was born around Kildare, Ireland in 1859. I'm looking for his parents. His children's names are Patrick, John, Elizabeth, Matthew, Mary, Michael, Edward, Nellie, Thomas, and Timothy. His wife's name was Catherine.
If anyone else has him in their tree, please reach out!

Welcome to RootsChat Melanie, did Edward marry in Ireland and if so were any of his children born in Ireland?

Hello and welcome  :)

I am sure that people will want to help you. You give no dates or places and I know you are looking for family members.
I can see a family with several of those names living in Greenane, Kerry with Edward born Co. Kerry. Could that be your family? If so, I wonder about Kildare as a birthplace  ???

Do you have Edward and Catherine's marriage details? You would hopefully find his father's name there.

Regards
Heywood

There are children of those names registered in Kenmare to Edward Dwyer and Catherine Moriarty.

Yes! Edward and Catherine married in Ireland and all of their children were born there!
Thanks for the help!

Heywood,
I think that you're right about Greenane, that is my family for sure. As for the marriage details, all I have are census records that list them as husband and wife, along with their children. I have yet to find one with his parents listed.

I'll ask a Moderator to move this to the Kerry board.
It should be possible to find more, Ireland has several good free sites that can be searched.

As heywood said their mother appears to be Catherine Moriarty
Here is a baptism and birth for Timothy, don't worry about the difference in dates that often happens when people are late registering a birth.

The 1901 census shows Edward as born in Co. Kerry - was your original reference to Kildare an error? Just to make sure that the correct family is being researched.

In light of the baptisms found for Thomas and Timothy being before the civil registration dates, I would search for baptism before the date of birth in all the other cases also – people were fined for late registration at that time and gave a date that prevented this rather than a true date.

I don't immediately see a marriage for Edward and Catherine

Edward DWYER found dead Jun 05 1907 LINK (https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/deaths_returns/deaths_1907/05526/4548996.pdf) #93 aged 60

Also do you want to find family going back or forward?
