Title: Help needed deciphering occupation on marriage entry 1804

Can anyone decipher the occupation of James Lamond in the entry of his marriage to Jane Coldwalls in 1804 in Dalkeith Midlothian? I think it says "soldier in the ..... Militia."

What do you know about James?
There's a report in the Caledonian Mercury, 3 March 1808, of a James Lamond, age 30, born Paisley parish, County of Renfrew deserting from the Edinburgh Regiment of Militia.

Could the abbreviation be "Edn'h"

The last character is superscript so I think the word might be Ednr . The second letter is certainly a 'd'.

Thank you both for the feedback. Edinburgh makes sense as his son, David Lamont, married there in 1843.

The newspaper report is interesting. All of his children with Jane Caldwalls were baptised in Dalkeith, except for Margaret, who was baptised in Inveresk with Musselburgh on 13 April 1809. Where can I get a copy of the article? If he's the right James Lamond, it gives me a birth to follow up :-)

The Caledonian Mercury (1720-1867) is available on line via FindMyPast or British Newspaper Archive (both credit/subscription sites).
Depending on location it might be available free via a local library

Here is a transcription of the article from the Caledonian Mercury.  Good description of James.

Deserted from the Edinburgh Regiment of Militia, Quartered at Musselburgh.
James Lamond, by trade a weaver, aged 30 years, 5 feet 8 1/2 inches high, brown complexion, brown hair, grey eyes, round visage, stout made, born in the parish of Paisley, county of Renfrew; had on when he went away, a light drab coloured short coat, light coloured corduroy breeches, enrolled the 23d February curt. a substitute for the parish of South and North Leith.  Deserted 26th February curt.

Whoever will apprehend any of the above Deserters, and lodge them in any of his Majesty's Gaols, will receive a reward of Five Guinueas for Robert Burns and Two Guineas each for James Lamond and James Gibson, over and above above the allowance of Twenty Shillings, made by act of Parliament for apprehending Deserters from the Militia.  The reward to be paid by applying to the Commanding Officer, at Head Quarters.  Feb. 29, 1808.  (Caledonian Mercury 03 March 1808)
