Can't see a matching birth in Ireland- do you know her mother's name?

Hugh MacCulloch, age 54, widower, retired sea captain, died 1917- would this be her father?

Hugh died in Ballyartan. These households in that townland in 1911 might be possible relations:

http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Londonderry/Bondsglen/Ballyartan/598233/

The informant at Hugh’s death was R. A. MacCullough, brother. This might be him in 1911:

Thanks for the reply aghadowey

Yes that is her father Hugh who died at Ballyarton on 19 Nov 1917.
He is shown as her father on her marriage to John Ernest Henderson at Claremont Church on 18 May 1933 but no details of her mother. Her husband John died on 2 Oct 1934 and I think they had a son John Ernest born in Donegal in 1934. Mary Elizabeth known as Molly was a nurse and lived at 73 Richardson St Belfast. She then married James Monahan at St Anthony's Church Belfast on 15 Sep 1941 but died of TB on 3 Jul 1945.

I have tried to find her in Ireland Scotland and England but no results.

Thanks for your help Elwyn Scoutter

I have looked at the census returns 1911 for Ballyarton and tried to work out if any of Hugh's family were there but I think they are cousins.

There was clearly a wider MacCulloch cluster in Ballyartan, so care is needed to disentangle it.  For example, one family comprised Hugh MacCulloch and Margaret Campbell, who had a number of children in Ballyartan from the late 1840s to the mid 1870s, one of the children was a Hugh who went on to be a clergyman, so not your Hugh, some of their other childrens' names (eg. John Mitchell MacCulloch b. 1860, Charlotte Matilda MacCulloch b. 1872, and Lucy Margaret Kyle MacCulloch b. 1874) are a reasonable match for the names and ages in the previously posted 1911 census return for house 19 in Ballyartan.

Another more promising family was farmer William MacCulloch and his wife Elizabeth Kells, who had a number of children in Ballyartan including Hugh MacCulloch (b. 1862), John MacCulloch (b. 1864), Robert Andrew MacCulloch (b. 1865), Sarah Matilda MacCulloch (b. 1867), and James Henry MacCulloch (b. 1873), that family would seem to be a reasonable fit for your Hugh, given the information in his 1917 civil death registration (54 years old and the informant was 'R.A. MacCulloch Brother') and the names and ages in the previously posted 1911 census return for house 16 in Ballyartan.

Aforementioned James Henry MacCulloch (b. 1873) was the resident of the previously posted 1911 census return for house 15 in Ballyartan.

Aghadowey and gaffy

Thanks for the info.

I too thought that William MacCulloch and Elizabeth Kells were Hugh's parents but he seems to have disappeared.

Kind regards

Remember that Hugh was a sea captain so probably not 'home' in 1901 and 1911. Still checking things but William MacCulloch (Capt. Hugh's father) and Hugh MacCulloch (married to Margaret Campbell were both sons of a Hugh MacCulloch). Fairly certainly they were brothers but looking to pin down Capt. Hugh & his daughter Molly beore posting family tree here.

Added- Molly's 1933 marriage gives her name as Mary Elizabeth Kells McCulloch so more than likely her father is a son of William MacCulloch & Elizabeth Kells.

The description page of application wasn't filled out and had to be done which may explain the delay in travel-

Death certificate (1917) said cerebral sclerosis 3 years which explains him coming back to Ireland with the children.

There are two MacCulloch's that I don't know where they fit in.

Margaret E MacCulloch was witness at Molly's marriage to John Earnest Henderson on 18 May 1933.
John MacCulloch was best man to James Monahan at marriage to Molly on 15 Sep 1941.

Molly's uncle John would have been 77 yrs in 1941 but from a photograph I have seen of this John he would have been about Molly's age.
Could you tell me what aft means.

aft. = after

If the witness John MacCulloch was Molly's age then he couldn't have been her uncle but wonder if he was another cousin.
