Read about this on the BBC webpage this morning.

I haven't found any of my ancestors buy if nothing else it makes interesting reading.

Quite fascinating isn't it. I didn't know these markers still existed. Makes you wonder how these made their way back to the UK.

No, I had no idea either. Around 10,000 according to the BBC

They came back over a period of time - two crosses from the same grave in Palestine are in churches near me.

I was surprised to see the estimated number still existing.

Several churches have crosses, but they also exist in museums, schools and colleges.  The cross for a nephew of my 2xgreat grandfather is one of sixteen in Bradfield College, Berkshire.  I am led to believe that his parents paid for the cross to be sent to England after he was reburied in an official war cemetery.
