Hello,
Sarah Willis was born in 1830, in Wethersfield. She married Jesse Thorogood in Shalford, and lived there till the end of her days.
Does anyone know anything of Sarah and her parentage?
Thanks,
Adam McGregor

From FreeBMD:
Mariages:
Sarah Willis MarQ 1848 Braintree 12 39 Groom: Jesse Thurgood
A copy of the certificate (£9.25 from GRO) should show the name and occupation of her father.

Thank you. If I don't get any replies soon, I might well send off for the record.
-
1841 census gives 3 possibles living in Shalford. :-\
A possible non-conformist baptism in Wethersfield:
Sarah (b 1831) bpt 20 April 1832; daughter of George and Mary.

There is an online family tree implying that her parents are James WILLIS and Esther ROGERS with no reference given.
There is a baptism in 1830 with similar parents LINK (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XKZ5-2VC)
One to keep in mind if marriage certificate states James as her father's name

Thank you both. Sarah is one person I have struggled with, so I'll have to see what the certificate says.
-
And, out of curiosity, what would a non-conformist baptism be? Catholic?
-
No, not Catholic; the transcription gave 'Independent'.
-
How mysterious.
-
In case correct there is a marriage on Oct 09 1829 in Shalford of
James WILLIS and Esther ROGERS

Thanks for that. Just not sure why Sarah insisted through all the censuses that she came from nearby Wethersfield.

Often it is where people thought they were born, where their earliest memories were.....not always accurate!

Yes, that's a good point. My ancestors have given wrong places of birth before. I need that marriage certificate to narrow it down.
