Hello,
I am wondering if someone might be able to provide me with the obituaries for James Allan (1855-1926) and Jane (Jeannie) Allan (nee McRae) (1855-1919). They were married in 1877 in Dunedin. Both are buried in Andersons Bay Cemetery, along with a son and daughter.
I believe that there were seven children: Margaret Jane (1878), Flora McDonald (1884), William (1886), Mabel (1888), Leonard Stanley (1890), Reginald (1893) and Walter (1896). There might have been others as there is a gap between 1878 and 1884.
Any further information about this couple, and their children would be much appreciated. Thank you.

Hello Janette,
Thank you. I had looked in PapersPast, but never came across the death notice for James Allan! Nor the Probate either!
I am trying to confirm the number of children the couple had. Allan is quite a common surname in Otago. According to the 1925 marriage (PapersPast) of Reginald Allan, he was the fourth son. Mr Allan, sen., was mentioned among the guests. Which makes me think there must have been a son, James Allan. Regards.

If you have no joy there you may need to purchase a "printout" of either Jane or James' death registration
https://www.bdmhistoricalrecords.dia.govt.nz/Search/Search?Path=querySubmit.m%3fReportName%3dDeathSearch%26recordsPP%3d30#SearchResults
If you have a credit card you can follow the instructions and order online and have it emailed to you at a cost of $25

Hi Janette,
Thank you again, I had just found the death notice for Jeanie Allan!
As you found on BDM, there was more than one James and Jane Allan having children around the same time.
I will try the FD's, and if no joy there, then obtain a Death Certificate.
Leonard Stanley Allan died 8 Feb 1950 at Waimate, and his sister Margaret Jane Duff died on 10 August 1965 in Dunedin. Would their obituaries maybe mention other siblings? Regards.

Hi Printer,
There are online trees for this family at the Ancestry website.
James Allan born 1882 died 1966 Dunedin, and the Jessie Allan provided by Janette above, born 1879 died 1969 Wanganui- married Stanley George Whittall.
Looks like Jessie was cremated.
Hope this helps a little.
Cheers
KHP
Edited: The trees have the spouses surname with one "L"

Hello kiwihalfpint,
Thank you for the Jessie Allan information, that's great news.
James Allan, b 1882, but which one out of the three is the question. Now I have a date 1966 to work on.
Ancestry I will now check too. Much appreciated. Regards.
