Hello,
John's parents were William and Elizabeth, though I know nothing of them. He married Mary Hallam (b. 1793, Norwell), in 1812, in Norwell. I'd appreciate any information on John's parents.
Thanks,
Adam

Hi Adam,
Me again,
I'm going into the archives today so will look up the Cartwright records for you as Norwell and Coddington's baptisms are not on my disc's.

Yes, that's them. That's where my information stops. No marriage or birth records for his parents.
-
I'm drawing a blank with Nottinghamshire marriage for a John Cartwright and a Mary.
-
Yes, so have I. Hopefully nottsgirl1 can shed some light on the matter.
-
I've checked Philimore's Marriages for the parishes of Newark and Caunton for the 5 years prior to the 1782 birth and post birth -
A William Cartwright married an Elizabeth Bloom, Caunton, 13 Dec 1785 - else have drawn a blank with both parishes.

This certainly sheds some light onto it larkspur, thanks. I'm going to look again at census records to reaffirm John's date of birth.

How do you know John's parents were John and Mary?
1841 census has John's birth as 1787-1791 and 1861 has birth as 1785!!
The only one I can find in Caunton is John Cartwright son of William and Elizabeth born 9 Oct 1790 christened 10 Oct 1790
William and Elizabeth and 14 children in total.

That must be him then. My mistake. Have you got anything on William and Elizabeth Cartwright?
-
Hi,
Just working on them can tell that 2 of their children died young.

Did you what the list of all their children.

No, thank you. Thanks for the information. I'll input it all now.
-
William Cartwright and Elizabeth Bloom married 12 Dec 1785 at Caunton.
My disc's are old one's maybe Larkspur has more up to date one's and will be able to find their births otherwise I'll have a look next time I'm in the archives.
Let me know if there is anything else you would like me to look for any time.
All the best

I'm having double vision here with the other thread from today.
The OP had already acknowledged my pointing out the discrepancy between John/Mary/newark, and William/Elizabeth/Caunton before the above comment was made.
I don't think there's any "must" about this. John's birth could be represented by either of these; or by another one somewhere else that we haven't spotted.
Yes, we can look further at the discs (Nottsgirl, you forgot me!! :'( :'( :P ;D) but unless we can pin him down with some more accuracy, I think the comment about having lots of new family may be a bit premature.
Should the other thread be merged with this one?

Yes, please merge the two.
-
Well I thought we had pinned him down to Caunton as that's where he says place of birth on census records and that's the only Cartwright family there.
Sorry Annie didn't mean to forget you. :'(
