Eileen E A West born St Mary Bengal India,Army Baptism 1920 record not much info,but found a birth registration 1921 appears same person Guildford,mother Scales.Not uncommon to have registered back in Blighty on return home.
She marries 1946 in Calcutta, to Fenner, an army record, trying to fill in the gap,as she is nowhere to be found in 1939,and not with her family in Guildford Surrey before this time.Have not put on too much info as this is against RChat policy.Just think its strange that she should marry in Calcutta having been registered 1921 Guildford.Perhaps stationed there,have no idea .
Unless of of course there are two girls of the same name,but doubt this.
Any ideas please,and no I have not yet invested in certificates,Thanks,Brionne.

There is a death in 1988 Wiltshire for an Eileen Ann Fenner b 26.7.1920
Incoming passenger entry from Novia Scotia to Liverpool 24.8.1946 - Eileen Ann Fenner aged 25 - housewife. Country of last permanent residence = India. Address 26 St Mary's Rd Salisbury Wiltshire
Freebmd has a possible child born 1947 Wiltshire who married in Wiltshire 1965. You may want to take a look at the surname of her spouse

Yes I had already found the surname of the child born to the 1946 marriage,and her spouse name,this was my prime reason for this post.As its fairly recent history,and some folk may be still alive thought it best not to be too specific.

The sailing record is great,as had found nothing.at least now know Eileens route back into England.
Just discovered this lead today when editing 1939 in my own tree.

Believe Eileen Wests father was Robert William Thomas West born 1874/5 Horsell Surrey.
Military service WW1, Army Service Corps 12th Jun 1915 Pte R4/095245 44th Battery Woking.
Mother, Beatrice May Scales born Walworth London 24 July 1882.
Large family of children,but no evidence of Eileen being with them.

Carole,Would you be very kind and post the name of ship and any other person with Eileen Fenner arriving Liverpool August 1946.
There is no other source for this shipping record that I can find. Family Search do not have it. Many thanks .

just unearthed another another marriage to Aircraft Fitter Geoffrey Giles 1939 Surrey N.
Eileen E A Giles [Payne] and husband in Woking 1939.Her age is slightly different,11th Feb 1921.
But still believe this is the same person.
Unable to place her with a suitable Payne for a later marriage.

The ship was the Britannic of the Donaldson Line
I thought you said she was Eileen West who married Fenner? Where does Eileen Payne/Giles fit in?

I have no idea about the 1939 marriage either but it looks correct.
Divorce before 1946 is an option, unable to find a death for Giles with correct date of birth that fits.
Is the 1946 marriage bigamous perhaps or even annulled,or are there two separate females,with the same name.
Payne is written clearly in her 1939 column with husband Giles She had married Giles 3rd quarter 1939 ,so that fits.But no sign of a second marriage in the name of Payne anywhere.
Its certainly a mystery.Would an early adoption by Payne be the answer.
Will fork out for certificates as looks to me the only way forward to clarify this accurately.

You say she was only born in 1920 as West - not as Payne. Are you suggesting that she first married Payne then married Giles and then married Fenner? All before the age of 26yrs??
Any marriage to Fenner would be under her previous married name but you say that West married Fenner in 1946 in India

Am only going on records found,which is why am wondering now if there are two different females with almost the same date of birth and name.
The 1920 Brit Army birth in Bengal ties up with the Salisbury marriage ok,and child.
That marriage certificate will ascertain if Eileen is a spinster at that point.
Unsure where the Payne comes in,perhaps its a mistake on the 1939 Register,
or had she been boarded out with a Payne family previously when younger,her maiden name West by which she married Giles would not be entered anyway would it.

The person travelling from India in 1946 was Eileen Ann Fenner - married.
You say you have found a marriage between Eileen West and a Fenner in 1946 in Calcutta India - not Salisbury - so I cannot understand what marriage cert you are intending to purchase to find whether she was a spinster

Yes,rechecked the 1939 marriage is incorrect person.
That one is Eileen Elizabeth A Giles nee West.
Death Eileen Elizabeth A Payne 2005 Harlow. dob same.

It would have been highly irregular for a birth/baptism in India one year to have been registered in England the next as well.
There will be more information on the record at the British Library for the 1920 baptism but the details are redacted in accordance with FindMyPast's 100 year policy.
I won't be going for weeks so I can't check for you and I don't know if anyone else here is going either.

The 1946 marriage is definitely the couple who both died in Wiltshire as per my previous replies and Eileen must be the same person as the 1946 passenger list
Clearly her father was Edward - not Robert William Thomas West. Who were the parents on the Bengal baptism you found?

Edward West is her father,who ever he may be.Probably from a Catholic family as Eileen married at Church of Christ King Calcutta which is still in use today.
Its not that easy to track down a name like West anyway,let alone in India.
Have found an Edward Frank West born unknown place circa 1882 death Calcutta age 60 years,.14 Sep 1942.
Electrical engineer at Nankinara No 2 Mill of Titagarin Paper Mill,Calcutta,by Cathedral Chaplain.
Probably siblings of Eileens born there also,will need to make a London visit to the British India Records in due course.

Now confirmed her birth was in Burma.[stated on death certificate]
Place of Baptism 1920 St Marys Bengal, strongly indicates this place to be St Marys Cathedral Immaculate Conception, Rangoon Burma.
or now known as Yangon Myanmar.

Having had a look in some detail at the tragic events which occurred in Burma during WW2 to the British civilians and other Europeans living in the country at that time,my lady of interest, Eileen Ann Fenner nee West, was extremely fortunate to have survived.
Still unable to confirm where she was residing pre WW2,but she may well have moved to Calcutta before the Japanese hostilities started.
Also unable to confirm which Edward West is her father,residing in the Rangoon area at time of her birth July 1920.The Edward Frank West,,, Post 18,,,already mentioned died at the Presidency General Hospital Calcutta 14 Sep 1942,age 60 years.formerly in the Burma Corporation at Mausam Falls Burma,also Tigaghur Paper Mills. An electrical engineer.His name is included with the Trek casualties listed in 1942,but his cause of death does not appear to have been caused by the Japanese invasion of Burma.

Correction The Edward Frank West death 1942 is not the father of Eileen Ann West.
His Probate shows widow as Marie West. Believe more likely to be a later guy Edward West a Customs Officer. Ongoing research.

2,Lilian Mary Leslie born 1899,on 9th January 1924 Bassein Southern Burma,, now port of Pathein Myanmar.Edward is a widower.Customs Officer.

It is very unusual to be asked such a direct question on Rootschat as what my connection to my post is. Therefore, prefer not to make any comment at this stage.
However,can confirm that I do not do any research other than for my own Family Tree and certainly take no payments.Family History, especially the social side, has been an interest of mine for many years,as it is for many other people who use this excellent site.

It is not unusual to be asked this type of question as it can often help us to determine the correct family. On several occasions it has been found that somebody has been researching the wrong family.
I am already aware from your pm's that there is a family connection but it's not clear what that connection is. However - it is entirely up to you what level of information you choose to disclose in your posts.
In this case there is a living child of the marriage of whom you are aware but it is not clear whether you have contacted her to establish whether she can confirm her grandfathers details for you.

The incorrect person is Brian Albert West 1939 his correct parents are Albert E West and Ellen M Holland who married Amesbury 1912. Have no idea who Eileen Ann West

Another correction,, need to get this straight.
Mother of Brian A West 1939, is Iris E West nee Davis who married an Albert West 1938 Salisbury.
Iris being daughter in law of couple quoted previous post Albert E West and Ellen M R West nee Holland.
Iris married twice, secondly to Mabbett 1953 and died in Southampton age 46 1961.
