Title: STACEY, Ann - Chasewater Cornwall
Post by: winona on Tuesday 01 August 17 11:48 BST (UK)
I know Ann was born 25/10/1845 in Chasewater, Cornwall, and married George Greenland on 20/6/1865 in Daylesford Victoria, Australia

I am looking for any information on her parents and siblings.

Also when and where her family entered Australia.

Thank you, Winona

From GenUKI:
Chacewater (Chasewater), (Cornish: Penn an Chas) is in the Deanery of Powder. The parish was created in 1828 from part of Kea parish. The parish is named after the 'English Chase' or hunting ground near to a stream, or other water, feature.

So, this baptism looks good?

16 May 1847  At Kea
Ann Stacey, daughter of Joseph & Elizabeth, residing at Hugas. Joseph a miner.
(found on Cornwall-OPC-Database)

It's the only baptism I can see for an Ann Stacey.
A sister, Jane was baptised the same day.

I would be more confident if I could find Jane on the 1851 census? :-\

Marriage:
29th December 1844  at Kea
Joseph Stacey, of full age, Bachelor, a miner, residing at Hugas
Elizabeth Burrows, of full age, spinster, residing at Hugas

Fathers:
William Stacey, a Gentleman's servant
Richard Burrows, miner

Hi Winona and KG.   ;)

Just marking so this thread turns up in my new replies box.

Here is a link you might find useful Winona.

Possibly/probably where KG went to find his info.

http://www.cornwall-opc-database.org/search-database/baptisms/

Interesting that both daughters were baptised the same day - were they twins or did they hold off baptising Ann until they had Jane 'done'.

Thank you KGarrad and Wiggy.  This information is extremely useful.  I didn't know there was a sister Jane.  Maybe she had died by the 1851 census?

Still wondering how and when the family arrived in Australia.

Best wishes Winona

KG . . .  If Ann had left home to come to Aus, maybe Jane did too??  (but not by the age of maybe 5 - unless the whole family came.   Do you know if the whole family came to Australia, Winona?)

Hi I cannot locate the arrival of Ann ( and possibly ) Jane in Australia c 1849, as an online tree states that a birth of a Mary ( Ellen) Stacey was 4th August 1849 South Australia Father Joseph Mother Elizabeth, but I can locate a Joseph & Mrs Stacey departing Plymouth 6th December 1848 and arriving in Adelaide 23rd March 1849 on Vessel Pakenham?

Hello Keyboard 86 and Wiggy. By what I understand of the family story, Mr, Mrs and Ann Stacey came into Australia via S.A. I don't know what happened to Mr. & Mrs., but Ann got into Victoria - alone or with others, I don't know

Following your lead Keyboard, I found the following on the South Australian site for incoming passengers.

STACEY Joseph, Elizabeth BURROWS, 2 ch arrived in SA 1849-03-21 aboard Pakenham from Liverpool via Plymouth

Looks like you have hit the jackpot.

Might have come across to the gold diggings a few years later maybe?    :-\

Just providing links for the websites I used:

www.GenUKI.org.uk
Has lots of info split by country and county.
Very useful is the "Towns & Parishes" listing, where there's usually a description of each parish.

Cornwall-OPC-Database.org.uk
A volunteer-run database of parish registers (and more) for Cornwall.
A treasure trove of all things Cornish! ;D

It may be possible to follow the family trail back further using baptisms and marriages from that site?

As I suspected, the family aren't in the UK for the 1851 census.

Having a bit of trouble tracing the Staceys in 1841 Census at the moment.

Joseph did likely have a Sister ELIZABETH though, that married John COLLINS 17 Nov 1844 Kea
Her Father WILLIAM, Occp Servant

Will try and trace her after Marriage to see if she was born in Cornwall or not.
