Does anyone have any connection to this lady. She was my great-grandfathers older sister (he was Henry George Webb, the second of eight children). She has an interesting story (and rather sad). She was widowed young and also died young at just 30. Her children were then at the Blean Workhouse for a period but it appears they stuck together as much as possible, some of them going to Canada for a while but returning to Herne Bay. If anyone has more information on them I would be grateful. Thanks

Thank you Rosie and Christine.
The info on Fanny Philadelphia Newing (Fanny Jane's daughter) is particularly interesting as she seemed to disappear on my records after travelling to Halifax, Canada in 1890.
Nathaniel and Charlotte are on the 1901 census in Herne Bay
Edwin & Nelson are on the 1901 and 1911 census's in Folkestone and Herne Bay
but I had no record of Fanny Philadelphia.
I used to check things on familysearch long ago but got a bit miffed by the amount on inaccuracies so stopped looking. I guess like everything in family history you have to take a lead from somewhere and then check it out for yourself. I shall now explore the info held on familysearch with added enthusiasm so many thanks to you both. :)

Thanks again to Rosie and Christine. I have had a look at familysearch again and it is a very different site to how I remembered it. I think I shall be spending a lot of time on there checking my whole tree to see if there are things I have missed in the past.
By the way thanks to everyone on rootschat too - I've always found you very helpful.

Nathaniel Newing
MONROVIA Celebrating 50 years of marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Nathaniel Newing were honored at an open house at the home of their daughter, Mrs. John B. Forster. The Newings, 334 W Lemon Ave., were married in Boston and came to California on their honeymoon. When they decided to stay, they made their home in Monrovia, and after short residences on Alta Vista and Linwood Sts., moved to their present address. They have a son John E. Newing of North Hollywood, two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Thank you RJ137 for the further information. :)
I hadn't looked at these before now. It's amazing how much info is out there - if only there was the time to look at it all. Thanks again

Hi Fanny was my Great Grandmother I would love to hear what you have found out about the family, perhaps we can share info. Basically after the workhouse 4 of the children immigrated to America. One of the girls went to Canada. Both girls married but had no children. Nelson, my granddad stayed in england and went to sea at 13 and was survived by 3 children at his death. Gladys the eldest one being my mother. Two of the boys returned to england but only one survived to marry and have children. I did know his son Ben. This family still lives near scotland but we are no longer in contact since Ben Died. We also had visits from America until again the daughter died. My names are not clear at the moment as it is a long time since I did a search. I believe their was also an Auntie Grace who visited from Canada. Regards Jean

Hi Jean -
I'm so pleased you have contacted me. My main interest has been the Webb family in Whitstable. The way these children were dealt such an awful start to their lives (losing both parents so early) but appear to have overcome it and remained close, has always impressed me. I would love to let you know what I have and fill in some gaps in my own tree. Fanny's father was Henry Webb who was a diver - if you search my posts you will find info about his life and death.
If you are interested it may be best to send me a personal message so we can exchange info that way. Look forward to hearing from you. Regards Dino
