Hi
I have posted on the Donegal page then l saw this one and as a new member think l should have posted here first - sorry.
I have been researching my father's family for a year or two (after he passed away) but never seem to get very far. My Dad didn't talk much about his family which hasn't helped.
So far I know:-
My Dad was born in Dunfanaghy 1943
His Mother Ellen was b 1912 to William Robinson and Margaret (Greer) she was his 2nd wife
William and Margaret also had (I got these from the church records in Dunfanaghy)
Emily b 24/4/1908 d 27/4/1908 Dunfanaghy
Maggie Anne b 5/5/1909 Dunfanaghy
William b 23/3/1910 Dunfanaghy
Catherine b 27/3/1914 Dunfanaghy
William's 1st wife was Maggie Miller b c 1883 Dunfanaghy d 7/10/1902 Dunfanaghy
they had one child William b 6/4/1902 d 6/4/1902 Dunfanaghy
William Robinson b 8 Feb 1880 (1901 Census Kill, Dunfanaghy) d 1956
parents
William b c 1849 (1901 census)
Emily (maiden name Robinson?) b 1852 d 2/1/1905 aged 53
other children
Samuel b 7/10/1876 he married Catherine Miller (not sure if she was the sister of Maggie Miller) and they had 3 children
Samuel b 22/9/1908 Dunfanaghy
William b 1906/7 (census 1911)
Emily b ? (she was on the 1911 census but no age recorded)
Then the trail ends. There were so many Robinson families in Dunfanaghy which also makes it hard and from what l can find out they were not related.
Any advice or help would be much appreciated. TIA

It's better to have only one thread, this one would probably have been moved to Donegal.
Link to other thread, with replies.

Emily b ? (she was on the 1911 census but no age recorded)
You need to look at the image to see the ages in months
http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/reels/nai002062638/
Emily is 10 months.

Emily's birth date is 21st May 1910
mothers name Kate Robinson nee Millar

Hi just came across your message. I too am looking at the Robinson family, Dunfanaghy who were fishermen. I know there were lots of Robinson's in the area at the time who were not all related.
Many thanks

Hi there, I was also curious about the Robinson family tree. My grandad was William Robinson , he was born in 1906 or 7. When I was a kid I visited his brothers Sammy and Robert. One of them lived in Port Glasgow and the other in a village called Strone near Dunoon. I can’t remember which was which, I was very young at the time. I never heard of a sister called Emily. My grandparents only had one child. My mum Kathleen. Sadly she died about 15 years ago. I forgot to mention that they all moved to Glasgow in the late 50’s early 60’s. They were officially COI.
I also looked at the 1911 census and can only assume my great grandparents were Samuel and Catherine but I’m not 100% sure. I hope this information helps.

A handy way of getting siblings is just Search by Surname and Reg District, Birth results after 1900 give Mother's maiden name on the Results as well as the Certs, which are free on the Irish Govt BDM Website.
Solve Security Captcha and just use initials to sign in...safe site!!
LINK to all Birth results for Robinson of Dunfanaghy from 1900 to 1919 http://www.rootschat.com/links/01oy2/
-
All Civil Reg Birth, Marriage and Death results for Robinson of Dunfanaghy
LINK http://www.rootschat.com/links/01oy3/
Some with Returns page No do not have Images of Certs at moment but will have eventually so one can use Link every few months to look for any updates in the future.
One can click on Marriages for example, and even decades as needed. Click on 1800 or 1900 folder

There are 3 McKinley/Robinson Marriages on example posted....amend Search to McKinley, Dunfanaghy and tick Births Year range and search if one wants them.
Certs have father's name and mother's maiden names on them!

Armed with the information you have and using the second Link posted
LINK http://www.rootschat.com/links/01oy3/
one can just click on Marriages where you get all Marriages, can scroll through them looking for his Marriage (and siblings around the early 1900's if you want), Parent's Marriage, then scroll on and look for any Marriages of children in one swoop.
Then click Deaths...

Thank you for all your help. On my granny’s side Mary (Minnie) Hay we managed to get back to 1846 and the marriage of James Morrow and Mary Dinsmore.
On my Grandads side we managed to get back to William and Emily Robinson who had a son called Samuel who had a son called William who was my grandad.
We can’t find any more about Catherine Robinson maiden name Millar but the rest of the information is terrific.
We also tried to find out about the three siblings of my grandad who I didn’t know about, Emily born 1910 and her younger brothers James and Alexander. Thanks again for your help and if anyone has any information about any of the people we can’t seem to find I’d appreciate it.

I think you’re right about Catherine Miller. There’s births there in 1884 and 1885 and I can only assume she’s one or the other but the trail stops there. However I’ve had a lot more information than I thought I would.
Thanks for the information about Alexander, I did fear that some of the discoveries wouldn’t be good news.
Thanks again.

James on census could be a relative
Party 1 Name JAMES MILLER
Party 2 Name MARIANNE WILKINSON
Date of Event 14 July 1891
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/marriage_returns/marriages_1891/10676/5890710.pdf
sadly lacking in detail!

Could well be, having looked through my relatives on my granny’s side I think I’m related to the half of Horn Head. Lol
-
Didn't see a Birth Reg for James in Dunfanaghy with father William

Certainly possible.... ;D

Thanks again for all your help. As you can probably tell I’m not the best when it comes to the internet. Had to get my wife and daughter to help me but I’ve had loads of information to keep me going. The fact that Kit17 was looking for the same ancestors made me curious. All the best.
-
No problem....goodness knows what discoveries can be made even just doodling through Marriages etc over time if you wanted.
Enjoy!
