Post by: mwjw22jb on Sunday 06 August 17 04:09 BST (UK)
Hi, I would love to hear from anyone who has researched, or is connected to, Mary Bristol Taylor Wilson born 1861(2nd quarter), Carlisle,Cumberland, England. Parents were Alexander and Jane Wilson and Mary was 2mths old on 1861 Census. I don't have her on the 1871 Census with the family now in Leeds,Yorkshire. Regards,Marj

Have you looked to see if anyone is researching this name in the 'Surname Interests' tab, under 'Your Tools' below?

Added:
Free bmd only has her birth as Mary Bristol Wilson (1st quarter) - where did the Taylor come from, please?

Is this her in 1881, so that you just want her in 1871?

21 Botanic Rd in West Derby district
Margaret Mordaunt   76  head widow  Workington
Mary B. Wilson   20   Cockesmouth, Cumberland, granddaughterno occupation
Kate Murphy   servant

Added:
That is probably Mary Beatrice Wilson, born Cockermouth.

Added:
As the family moved to Leeds, then this is probably her death to explain her absence from 1871:
Deaths June quarter 1866
Mary B Wilson  age  5    Leeds

Hi,thank you, I was wondering if she'd died young. No,I haven't looked at the surname interest yet. Am hoping to find out why she had the name Bristol as a middle name.

Bristol could be the maiden name of one of her grandmothers or greatgrandmothers - how far back have you got on those lines?

There is a Jane Bristol and a Robert Taylor in the list of names for marriages for the December quarter 1844, Bolton.

Do you have the marriage of Jane and Alexander?

I have gone back to 1843 with parents marriage in Scotland. (see entry James Wilson p2).There are no "Bristol" in family history. Theory maybe have special meaning to the family eg. Bristol in Canada (father born NS); there is a ship called Bristol that sailed to that area; Grandfather was dock builder - could've worked the docks in Bristol on return to Scotland/UK and died in the area (have no records of him or dates). Clutching at straws.

Just to confirm the GRO online index has this as Mary Bristol Wilson, so looks to be the right person.

Have you got her death certificate, so address at death, and then looked for nearest cemeteries to that address for 1866?

I found Alexander John and Jane Wilson had another (and last) child after Mary Bristol Wilson. She was Margaret Harper Wilson 1864-1869 and named after Alexander's mother.
Am wondering if previous advice given for Mary Bristol being named after a grandmother further back may be true.
Have searched every possibly variation for marriages with Bristol as (f) surname but so far nothing. The spouse surnames I've tried matching it to are Wilson,Taylor,Walker, Harper and Masson.
There's nothing I can find in United States, Canada or Ireland either. It's driving me dippy.
