Hello,
I'm trying to trace back my Thomas Theobald and Ann Brook who married in Barking in March 1794. Currently trying to work on Thomas I am struggling to find a birth record for him. It appears there could be at least three possibilities and I was hoping for some assistance.
Doing a search on findmypast I can see there is a Thomas baptized in 1777 Barking (I cannot see details)--17 yrs old at marriage.
Looking on ancestry I see a Thomas on a 1851 census that says he was born abt 1771 in Needham, but I can not find any record of such a Thomas being born on multiple sites.--abt 23 yr at marriage.
Then there is another researcher who has Thomas, married to Ann, who was baptized on or about 8 Oct 1769 Needham to Thomas Theobald and Hannah Peak.--25 yr at marriage.
Again though, I cannot find such a Thomas and the researcher has not responded to my query.
Any advice or help in sorting out Thomas' birth would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
Nich

Pre Civil Registration (which started on 1st July 1837) there are no birth records ::)
But there are baptism records on Parish Registers.
Sometimes, if you are lucky, a date of birth is also written on a baptismal record ;D
Also, not everyone was baptised, and adult baptisms are far from rare.

I know there weren't birth certificates. I misspoke. I meant baptism which--in my group anyhow--is usually done as infants. If they've been done as toddlers it has said a birth year. I've been lucky that way. Haven't had any adult baptisms yet.

Find My Past has Suffolk Baptism Index and this shows:
Thomas Thebald bp.8/10/1769 Barking, Suffolk, son of Thomas and Hannah.
I would say this is your man.
