Hi Chatters,
Where might I find a list of 1911 Canadian Racial Origin column 14 abbreviations?
I'm helping a friend. We know he has First Nations blood. I have clipped the bit out of the 1911 census to show you what I'm looking at. It appears to say Indian over top of the nationality of the father & mother. Then, several family members have abbreviations that look like B, OB, OH & OR.
I looked on the LAC website (perhaps not in the right place) and found the following verbiage:
Column 14. Racial or tribal origin
- Generally traced through the father.
- Aboriginal people were to have their racial or tribal origin traced through their mothers, with the specific name of the First Nation entered.
Can anyone help me find a formal abbreviations list please?

Sorry people - I've mislead you. It's abbreviations for the 1901 census that I require.
I've found the answer. ::)
