Title: Replica War Medals
Post by: FDH on Saturday 12 August 17 21:59 BST (UK)
Does anyone know where I can get a clasp for a miniature Canadian Volunteers Service Medal. I can get the medal but not the clasp.  Any ideas??
I have only just learnt that my Great Uncle would have received this medal & clasp if he had survived WW2 but unfortunately he died just a couple of days before the Japanese camp in Hong Kong he was being held in was freed.

A google search reveals a number of companies offering both replica medals and clasps.

www.defencemedals.ca
http://guthriewoods.com/index.php

There may be others ;D

I usually use Hill's but they don't have as the clasp is hard to find. I know I can google but was hoping for recommendations of reliable sites that you lovely people had maybe used yourselves but guess google it is then. Will check out guthriewoods first, thank you 😊

Wouldn't his family have received any medals he was entitled to?  :-\

They probably did but as his wife & daughter are both dead there is no one to ask. He & his family lived in Canada so have no way of tracing if his daughter had any family & I know his wife remarried. I'm looking for miniature replicas to make a small memorial, which I have already done for a great great uncle and grandfather. Was looking for UK sites but have found a clasp on a USA site so will probs have to go with that.

In the UK you can request a WW2 service record from the MOD and also check service personnel's medal entitlement (which medals they received, the address and to whom they were sent and the date). Maybe there is something similar in Canada?
