Can somebody please identify my graddad's (Herbert George Rose b.1896 Christchurch, Dorset) regiment from when he served in WW1. I believe from the cap badge he was with the Dorset regiment. Is the utility belt unique to a certain trade or just general issue?
Thanks, Alan in Poole.

Army Service Corps.

See http://1914-1918.invisionzone.com/forums/topic/175548-03-bandolier/ regarding the bandolier, and the photo of the ASC man (5th photo down).

Thanks for your reply Shaun. Is it then safe to say that he was a mounted soldier in the ASC. Can I ask another question? My late mother said he nearly lost his legs due to foot rot from standing in the trenches; would the ASC have been static near the front?

I wouldn't have expected ASC personnel to be in static positions near the front line.
Do you have his medals?

there are 5 Herbert Roses' ASC. 3 are Mech. Transport so not your man which leaves these 2:
Herbert Rose no. TS-7188 (Special Transport) (received the SWB 8/2/1919 sickness)
Herbert Rose no. R/069518 (Remounts)

Thank you for your help gentlemen. I shall refer to the family records and get back.

This is the badge that he was wearing.
He is definitely not in the Dorsetshire regiment when the photo was taken.
The belt is a bandolier and worn by those with horses including ASC waggoners.
