Title: Michael Joseph Lyons. Born Clontuskert area of Galway. C. 1879
Post by: Seeper on Thursday 17 August 17 12:56 BST (UK)
Michael one of ten children born to Michael Lyons and Eliza Farrell, who lived in Lismany. Michael was number four  in the pecking order, my Grandmother Mary Ellen being the eldest, born 1875.

Three brothers  and one sister emigrated to America, whom I have traced up to 1960.  Additionally one source says Michael also emigrated, however that is all the information I have, did he go or did he stay?

If anyone can help with information or suggestions would appreciate assistance.

Many thanks.

Thank you Rosie,  Anything further at any time would be most welcome.  It looks like Michael died a single man, so line would stop with his death date. I am also trying to locate details on his brother John, born circa 1877, Clontuskert registration district, lived Ganaveen who married . Catherine Bermingham in Clontuskert And then emigrated to USA. He died sometime
Before 1960 and had a son John who died 2.7.1960, pretty certain New York area for this family. I also have two other brothers one in Pittsburgh PA and the other in West Virginia.  should I ask for information on those under separate entries?  these requests are only. Y second attempts with roots chat so not entirely sure of all the pros and cons.

once again, many thanks.

John Lyons snr and jnr,

Looks like John jnr lost his parents at an early age and possible John snr also before 1930.
John jnr died 28.7.1960 at about 48 years of age. I wonder if he stayed single living with his aunt.

Thanks again Rosie, after years of stalemate this information is really moving me along.

Hello Rosie, Thank you for looking.    The other two brothers are,
Thomas Roger Lyons born circa 1881 who in 1960 was living in Fordyce Buildings, Clarksburg, West Virginia.  Believe  he had at least one son who. Might have same Christian name as his father. Donot know who or where Thomas Snr married , death date or emigration  details,  although after 1911. all I have is above which got from will details of his sister, Margaret Dooner in New York.

The other and final brother who emigrated  was Patrick Lyons born1883, also known as Pierce F. Lyons, who in 1960 was living. 634 Maryland Ave, Pittsburgh 32, PA.  He also left after 1911 census inIreland. they all seem to have left within a year or two of 1911.

Anything you could find   Particularly children born would be of great help.

Thank  you for giving me your time and help.

THomas R and Patrick(Pierce) Lyons.

Wow,

Both  Thomas and Patrick were missing from1911, everything fits. You  have, however, now thrown up some new mysteries. I do not know who the Uncle John mentioned is although I am assuming he must be a brother to the boys father Michael Lyons. Neither do I know who Mary Lyons is although I suppose she could be wife of  this John.  Likewise I do not know who Nellie is, perhaps wife of Patrick if he in the area at that time?

This is all amazing information Rosie, after years of nothing a glut of Info.

Many thanks.

Yes,

Took me a moment or two to work this through but  Nellie/Millie would have still been alive at World War 1 draft time, dying before 1920.

Think John must be a brother to Michael in Ireland born in the 1840s and possibly Mary his wife as she would appear to have been born circa 1849.
And was born in Ireland.

Have just located family of Forrest  Johnson on line so might be able to follow through  on This lime.  would not have made that connection without your help.  If anything turns up on Patrick in Pittsburgh it would tie
him in as last of the brothers.

Many many thanks this has been brilliant.

Lyons. America

That is he. Not the only brother to give some incorrect  information at times,
Although correct information on Naturalisation details. SOmeone suggested they gave birth date as in America to avoid being targeted as Irish. NOt sure what the attitude was in the early 1900's

With the information you have given me I was able to pick up on the family of Thomas Roger up to present  time, brilliant.

Really most grateful and appreciative of your help. You have taken me forward in leaps and bounds, it has been an exciting couple of days.

Hi, hope all is well. I've been researching my family history and a lot of the names match up and my grandfather also comes from a large family(one of 10). Is it possible we may be related?
My grandfather was also from Clontuskert, Chapelpark to be exact. Great grandparents are James and Bridget Kelly.

Not saying we definitely have a connection but saying a good chance. Ganaveen and Chapelpark are both in Clontuskert and less then a 5 min drive.
I was only able to find my 2x great grandfather James in a census that he reported as head of household. Is it possible your GG grandfather Rodrick and my GG grandfather James either had same parents or may be related a few generations before.
James was born around 1790 and died 1874.
I believe James and his wife Ann started the family farm and it lasted 3 generations. I was unable to find anything as of now about where James is from.

Hi,
Unfortunately Chapelpark has not appeared before.  My Great Great Grandfather Roderick Lyons (Roger) was born circa 1825. He married
Ellen Kelly in 1845 and died in 1865.  The name James has also not appeared in the family. He would look to be a generation ahead of Roderick.

It could of course be a connection but unfortunately I have not been able to establish where Roderick was born or any other information regarding his parents - lack of records. I did actually have some research made in Ireland some years ago but nothing then or since has turned up .

Do you have details of James’s children, and coming forward from there?
It would be useful to know in case anything else turns up.  I have a tree on Ancestry under Dolby Tree.
Regards,
Heather
