Looking through old family photos I came across the following pictures which may be of interest to some people. I personally would like to know the names of the others featured in the pictures. Perhaps someone may recognise their relatives in them. The photograph has written upon the mounting " To Jim, all our love Jackie and Sadie"
Sorry getting an error message when trying to attach pictures. Any advice please.

What message are you getting
-
Original message said too large. I then deleted three of the pictures and tried to post one but the message then read "this file name has already been used"
I have just managed to post this photo on the restoration page after making a copy and retitling it in my pictures file but it has come out very large.

There are guidelines for posting pictures here including renaming them

Rosie, Thank you very much for the link. I'll have a good look at the various topics and find out where I'm going wrong.

If you are still having problems let us know.
I look forward to seeing the photo's ;D

I think I will have to load them individually. This one I think was taken in Scotland where he was based at first (HMS COPRA not actually a ship)

This one shows a burial at sea. Think my dad was the photographer.

Dad and two friends

Finally one taken in India or Burma I think. There are others showing the type of vessel he served on (Landing Craft Guns) and some of surrendered Japanese troops. If anyone thinks they may be of interest then I will happily post them on this thread.

I would like to see more as I was serving at the same time in the RM (now 90+).
I think he was having a bit of fun with the uniforms (hats in particular) swapping with the others as I cannot remember RM's wearing anything other than beret's, peaked hats or helmets according to the occasion.
Thanks for posting them.

Glad you're interested in them Joe. As promised here are a few more. If they don't load I'll scan them individually and repost them later. Just bear with me, you might need to be patient. ;D
No sorry. Error message file too large. Will do them individually and post later.

Last one for a moment. As a matter of interest according to his service record Dad was at Portsmouth, Scotland, Italy, and the far east (India / Burma) and among his medals is the France & Germany star.
Also have an uncle who survived HMS Barham torpedoing and sinking.

Interesting and great photos your Royal Marine was I believe a gunner on an Landing Craft Guns (LCG) with a ramp at the fore end ..... not sure what their function was ..... to land guns?
The Japanese were surely captured and suitably identified by the paper on the arm.
I wonder if the site was Rabaul where the Japanese surrendered?

Glad you enjoyed them Joe. I have no idea where or when they were taken. Dad said he served on LCGs and was a gunner.

Since posting the photographs I have obtained Dad's service record showing which craft he served on and where his war service took him. He started his training at Eastney Barracks, Southsea, was sent to bases in Scotland for Landing Craft training and eventually served aboard LCG(L)s 10, 11, 13 and 18. He saw action in Operation Husky, the landings at Sicily and Italy and at Sword beach in the Normandy landings on D Day. He also served in India, Burma and Malaya. There is also another photo taken during or after his basic training. It would be great if someone out there recognizes any of the people in any of the pictures.
