Many thanks.
I am looking for the 1800s particular to Mossel Bay, there was such a paper for Uitenhage - now housed at the Drostdy museum - not a national paper such as Cape Argus, EP Herald etc.
Will try your suggestions,

There appears to be one:
Title statement Mossel Bay advertiser.
Publisher George : Group Editors Company, 1871-
From my experience with the National Library they have these regional newspapers on Microfilm and you can read them on a reader. You can ask for them to print pages off for a small fee

The National Library appears to hols a number of regional or local papers - I found the George and Knysna Herald there - and another researcher found the Oudtshoorn Koerant.
So It may be worth a visit and just ask them what Newspapers they have for the location. Printing off pages is a matter of ordering them on a form and coming back a couple of days later.
Cheers

Thank you Gillian.
I'm afraid a visit to the National Library - Pretoria or Cape Town - is not an option. I am in Port Elizabeth. Our main library has been closed for more than 2 years now and it is doubtful they would have anything for Mossel Bay there anyway. The building - beautiful building in Main Street - now Govan Mbeki Ave - is closed for health and safety reasons "for the foreseeable future".
I will contact them and ask if they have anything and see what they have to offer.
