Title: Lookup request// Albert WOODHOUSE?
Post by: millsfl on Sunday 20 August 17 17:36 BST (UK)
I'm new to this so please bare with me! :)
I'm looking for the marriage of 'Albert Woodhouse' [B: abt 1860] to an 'Emma Louisa -' [B: abt 1866] (or any info on either of them), and I believe both were born in Sheffield.

So far I've found Albert and Emma Louisa in the 1891 and 1901 Census in Sheffield, with Emma sharing the Woodhouse surname, but not stating her name is "Emma LOUISA" - if that makes sense?
I think I have also found Albert and Emma in the 1911 Census but living at separate addresses, still in sheffield. This time, Emma has recorded her name as 'Emma Louisa'.

1891:
Albert Woodhouse 30 Table Knife Cutler
Emma Woodhouse 25
Bertha Woodhouse 5
Clara Woodhouse 3
Emma Woodhouse 1

1901:
Albert Woodhouse 41 Table Knife Cutler
Emma Woodhouse 35
Emma Woodhouse 11
Harold Woodhouse 7

I have found a marriage record on findmypast of an Emma Louisa Howard born 1865 and Married 1884, but as my free trial expired a few days ago I can't access the record and I can't find it on ancestry!

Any info with regards to any of this would be greatly appreciated!

Marriage record for Emma Louise's parents: https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:2D7J-TYJ

Her mother's maiden name is given as Charlesworth on her birth certificate, but there is this plus an extra surname on the marriage record.

I've tried to get more, but it appears FamilySearch is doing some maintenance, so it's particularly slow. Once it's working again, try it for Albert and Emma's parents in earlier censuses.

Hi,

Albert's parents' marriage record: https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:M72Y-TMJ

The above appears to be Albert on the 1861 census rather than parents marriage?

Rest of Albert's family in 1861: https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:M72Y-TMD

Clearly most of the family are entered on one page & Albert on his own on the very next page.

Albert's parents Charles & Sarah's marriage on FreeBMD:

Woodhouse, Charles to Trye, Emma; June Qtr 1858; Sheffield Reg Dist; Volume 9c Page 313

Albert's father Charles with his parents John & Sarah in 1841: http://www.sheffieldindexers.com/1841Census_Index.html

Bailey Lane, Sheffield West (HO107/1338/4/31a/? (Sheffield Indexers site does not show the page number.) It doesn't show occupations either.

John Woodhouse, 25 years
Sarah Woodhouse, 28 years
Charles Woodhouse, 5 years
Sarah Woodhouse, 3 years
Mary Woodhouse, 9 mths

Did Charles Woodhouse (Albert's father) remarry as a widower in 1878?

If so there is this marriage on the Sheffield Indexers website here: http://sheffieldindexers.com/ParishMarriageIndex.html

Charles Woodhouse, 42 years, Table Knife Maker, a widower of 348 Langsett Road married Harriet Phenix by banns on 18th February 1878. The marriage took place at St Phillips Church at Shalesmoor. Charles father given as John Woodhouse who was a Shoemaker by trade. the witnesses were John Woodhouse & Sarah Ann Reynolds who made her mark. No fathers name for the bride shown.

Hope this all helps.

Kind regards

David

The marriage certificate of Albert and Emma states his father Charles had same occupation as himself i.e. Table Knife Cutler and that her father John was deceased, occupation was what looks like Grinder.

Witnesses were William Grice and Mary Butler.
