Title: Anthony Creasey - man of mystery
Post by: longer on Thursday 24 August 17 18:01 BST (UK)
Does anyone have any ideas how I can find out who Anthony Creasey's parents were?

He was probably born around 1774-1780, and maybe Heckington, Lincs (Heckington comes from 'grooms parish' details in Freereg).

He married Margaret Grantham in 1801 in Metheringham, Lincs. Witnesses were Baxter Stanton and William West.

He seems to have died around 1829 in Great Hale, Lincs.

But I can't find any birth details for him.

Any help would be appreciated.

What were the names of his children, and are there possible siblings(from Heckington) of his on censuses that you have tried to trace back?

I can't find a baptism but, in 1791, he was apprenticed to Robert Creasey, a butcher of Great Hale.

The burial of his son, Joseph Anthony, in Great Hale on 12th August 1822, gives Anthony's occupation as a butcher. Similarly the marriage of his daughter, Margaret Ann, to John Hartley, on 30th October 1848, gives it as a butcher.

A Robert Creasey, age 63, was buried in Great Hale on 17th June 1803. Also a Robert, age 70, on 25th January, 1837.

No parents named. You may wish to contact the person at the top of the page as they may have further information.

Thanks you helping me out, it's much appreciated as I seem to be going round in circles with this person.

Anthony Creasey and Margaret Grantham married in Metheringham in 1801.

I've found the following children born to an Anthony Creasey and Margaret in Heckington:-

Joseph Anthony (born 1822)

Sophia Taylor Creasey (born 1812)

John Charles Creasey (born 1817)

unknown female Creasey (born 1803)

Margaret Ann (born about 1806/8)

I've just found a 1841 census in High Street, Heckington showing a Margaret Creasy age 65 with a woman called Ann age 32 (could it be that Ann is really her daughter Margaret Ann?), there's also a 7 year old child called Susannah at the same address.

I've now found a marriage for Ann Creasey marrying Thomas Clarke the same year (1841)

I've been looking for this Robert Creasey (that Anthony was apprenticed to) and found a death in 1863 for a Robert Anthony Creasey age 52 buried in Great Hale - could be related?

I think that this Anthony Creasey and Mary Taylor lived in Horbling after Anthony Creasey of Heckington had already died in 1829.

It also seems that lots of Creasey's were buried in Great Hale no matter where they actually died.

Its strange as those Children are buried as Creasey but Baptised as Taylor, Father Anthony C Taylor and Mother Mary.
She was Mary Bugg and they married 1815

Sorry,  so not anything to do with you Anthony who is very elusive.

That is Jacky Clark's website.

She has used indexes etc published by Lincs FHS and all the usual sources to construct a huge tree of connections.

If she hasn't named his parents, it's because there are no obvious candidates around.  I doubt she will have any direct connection to AC. She used to post here, but I don't think she has for a while.

She also has a Facebook page called Lincolnshire and Fenland families.

Not much help, but interesting to note that highwayman Dick Turpin was hanged for the theft of two horses from a farmer named Creasey (check spelling) at Heckington.
