I have a 'Register of Corrected Entries' where a divorce is noted on a previous marriage record at the bottom of which it states: "The above insertion is made under the direction of the Registrar General in terms of the 5th section of the Act 18 & 19 Vict c.29)
Does anyone know what this refers to in the Act (presumably Divorce Act around 1933) as I've had no look finding it online. Also not sure of the word Vict above. I've attached a small snip.

18 and 19 c29 refers to the registration of births marriages and deaths (Scotland) act 1855,
I am assuning this is an act that permits the alteration of a registration.

Incidentally I just googled. 18 19 vict. 29 And it was the second result on the list.
But google is very clever, or devious, it remembers every search you have ever made and offers you results according to your search history, which may be good or bad news :) :)

V. In every Case in which the Status of any Person shall be altered by a Decree of any competent Court, the Clerk to the Process shall forthwith report such Decree to the Registrar General; and it shall be lawful for the Registrar General, and he is hereby required, to take all Measures necessary for having the Entries in time Duplicate Registers affected by such Decree rectified, by causing the Date of the Decree and the Import thereof to be noted upon the Margin of both Duplicates Opposite to such Entries, as the Registrar General shall think fit and direct.

Thanks for that though I've no idea what it means. I expected the references to be the reason for the divorce but not so from the look of it.

I know I'm late to the party but I have just come across this correction on a marriage entry too. I know the couple separated - she left him and went to Canada too - and many years later the entry was corrected at his instance I assume so he could remarry.
