Title: Wilhelm Freitag born 1815 in Pomerania/lived in London. Date please??

I have this photo said to be of Wilhelm Freitag born in 1815 in Pomerania. He seems to be rather young which would suggest a very early date for the photo. Is anyone able to date the wonderful clothing or offer any more suggestions please?

    I can't help with a date but I really doubt this is someone born in 1815. The photo looks too 'modern'.

I could be wrong.   I recommend you add DATE to the title of the thread to bring in the dating experts.    ;)

He does look in his late 30s- early 40s which would put this  as 1845-55 - or 1860 at the latest. Like Wiggy, I think this is a much later photo.

Could you describe it - the paper it's printed on, back, etc. Maybe you could scan the back and put it up here, if you have the original.

Thank you both ... pretty well sums up my thinking. Sadly, I only have a fairly low res scan and do not have access to original. Much more likely to be one of his sons rather than the father methinks!

I agree with Wiggy and Gadget....so more likely to be the next generation.
