Morning all!
Would anyone have access to Bedwellty marriages and could look up the following, please?
William JONES + Ann EVANS, Bedwellty 23 Dec 1872.
Not on Ancestry or FreeReg :(
Ann's father should be Jesse but I'd like to know William's father and any witnesses, plus occupations or anything really!
Many thanks in anticipation.

Hi AR :)
No marriage but found Banns - Ann Evans's father is a Jesse Evans.Ann was 19 and William 26 at the time .

Had a look at the cert - it just says 'Dead' for Williams's father.
Witnessses - William Thomas and Jesse Evans
Jesse - a collier.
-
Oh boohoo!
Thank you for your trouble though, Gadget. I decided to take another swing at this family and thought it wouldn't be easy. I think I need a spreadsheet or something! :D

Hmmm- those Joneses. So a William b.c. 1846. Became a collier. Do you have a birthplace for him on any censuses?
-
Yes, William was born in Merthyr, Glamorgan in 1846.
I like the look of parents Daniel and Elizabeth in 1851, siblings include Esther (three of his children's names):
Page Number
73
Registration Number
HO107
Piece/Folio
2458 / 212
But of course there are several other options.
Might try tracing Daniel forward and see if he dies before the marriage but am a bit rusty at this! :D

Just thinking - if William didn't know his father's name or occupation, he might have either died when William was young or it's perhaps a cover for illegitimacy :-\
-
Yes, I'm open to all possibilities. Wouldn't be the first child born out of wedlock in our family tree! :D

Family at Reply #5 is looking hopeful - Daniel dies (sometime) and Elizabeth remarries in 1859.
-
Any link up or was William away from family by 1861?
-
Yes, William (if it is him!) is still with the family in 1861 as a stepson and a scholar. By 1871 'my' William is a boarder away from home but I will check to see where his family is.
I can't find a matching death for Daniel JONES that I can be confident about between 1851 and 1859 - the youngest child of Daniel and Elizabeth (Ruth) is 8 in 1861. Daniel was born in Carmarthenshire in c 1808.

I've been looking through the burials but not much luck. I've been checking the obits and thought I'd found his death on 27th April 1854 in the obits* as it lists a Daniel Jones, carpenter, but this one was 38. Also it was Clydach**
(*Monmouth Merlin May 5 1854).
** near the iron works
-
Oh well that looks promising actually because he was a carpenter on the earlier 1851 census. I'll have a look at me map! :D
Thank you again.

It was in Gilwern near the Clydach Iron Works.

Sadly, I think it's this one in 1851:
HO107/2490/343/12
:-\

Oh yes, see what you mean. He aged badly before he died though! :D
Ignore me - when I magnified it, it does say 35. Hey ho. Back to the drawing board.
