Title: PLEASE can someone help me? I'm desperate.
Post by: markova21 on Monday 28 August 17 20:57 BST (UK)
Been trying to find the marriage details of my paternal great grandparents for years. I'm beginning to lose the will to live, tbh. I was born in 1967 in Barton,Manchester. [ It says Lisa Baker on my birth certificate, not Lisa O'Brien.] My dad was 64 when I was born, and my mum 42. My dad, Laurence O'Brien was born in Salford in 1903. His parents were Michael and Phoebe O'Brien. Michael was born on 28 January 1869 in Money, Kings County, Ireland. He and his younger brother John are listed in the 1891 Census as living in Worsley, near Salford. Michael was 21 and his brother was 19. Both were farm labourers. I know that Michael was one of 5 children born to Patrick Brien and Anne Dunne. Anne was from Money. Patrick died in April 1879 in Money/Munny. Anne died in 1912 or 1913 in Derrinboy, Kings County. That's the background. I have searched for years now and I can absolutely find no trace of a marriage between Patrick Brien/O'Brien and Anne Dunne in that part of Ireland. Is there something i'm missing or doing wrong? Please, if there is any help you can give me at all, or even if anyone is able to find their marriage details, I would be eternally grateful. Many thanks. Kind regards, Lisa O'Brien.

Civil registration of Catholic marriages began in 1864 so if they married in a Catholic ceremony before that date there will be no civil marriage record and you need to search for church register.

Lots of Catholic Parish Registers online (free)- http://registers.nli.ie/

Note on the birth's of Patrick's children he is described as a pensioner
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/birth_returns/births_1868/03453/2267816.pdf

sounds like he had a military background.

Sep 7th 1863 Patrick to Pat Brien and Anne Dunne
right hand page

a slow trawl back through the baptisms for more children may lead to an approximate date for their marriage
