Hi There.
I am rather clutching at straws here, but can anyone help me with the occupants this house, in 1923.
Or tell me of it's proximity to Binks Street,or Bushire Street.
My grandfather gave this address when he emigrated to Australia, and I would like to know if it was his
own home,or that of a family member.
My father was born at Bushire Street in 1920, but my grandfather deserted the family after this.
Failing this,it is a journey to the big city of Leeds,to look at Electoral Rolls. Living in a small village,I find this a daunting task.....
Many Thanks

Some photos and clues here:
Bushire Street, by Armley Street (which still exists)

Stapleton Road had a junction with Oak Road (which also still exists):

The 2 streets are very close to each other ;D

This shows Stapleton Road, New Wortley and if you look across the railway lines you will see Binks Street.

Thank You both.....
I think I have almost solved a problem I have been researching for 16 years.
Stapleton Road,is so near to my family territory , that I feel grandma and grandad either moved here after dads birth,or it was a relatives home that he stayed at, after he deserted the family.
Many thanks for your input.
Kind Regards

Occupant of 13 Stapleton Road, 1922-1928, was Mary Ann Leighton. No one else listed.
1918-1921 it was Arthur Leighton.

1918-1921 it was Arthur Leighton.
Maybe,

In 1929, Herbert and Mary Cunningham are at 13 Stapleton Road
Marriage

The Leighton marriage could be
13 April 1914, Holy Trinity, Armley Hall
Arthur Leighton
+ Mary Ann Emmans
There are no Cunningham, mmn Leighton births following the 1928 marriage, but there are Cunningham, mmn Emmens births in Bramley district from 1924!

Free index to the 1939 Register, address search for 13 Stapleton Road, Leeds
We see Herbert Cunningham, born 1896

From 1922-27 the electoral registers have a Herbert Cunningham at 10 Stapleton Road, also there were Albert and Hannah Jane Foster.
All the while, living at number 12 were Herbert and Florence Emmans, perhaps some relations of Mary.

Thank You,Everyone,
For your help in this matter. None of the names stated, are any thing to do with family.I suppose my grandfather could have run away with Mrs Leighton !
I would be grateful for the link to the online Electoral Rolls for the area please.
Thank you for saving me, or rather my husband , the dreaded trip to Leeds ! I do love the place really, just cannot cope with the pace there now.
Many thanks

Hi
I'm sorry that the names don't ring any bells with you.
Mary seems to have been widowed at the end of 1921, but Mr Cunningham was certainly close by, if not then, soon after!
Maybe there was just a room to spare for your grandfather at number 13, maybe there was more to it, we may never know!
The electoral registers are on findmypast, England & Wales, Electoral Registers 1832-1932
If you can access them there, I only looked after WW1, it will help to select "P B Of Leeds, West Division" as "constituency"
And, of course, Bushire Street is included as well!
